For the record, I've had two 360s suffer from the RRoD. The DVD tray on my current one seems to be acting a little funny. When I push the button to close the tray, it takes several button presses for it to close. One time, it wouldn't close at all and I had to slighly nudge the tray to get it to shut. I know the tray button is making contact with the drive inside since it makes a sound like it wants to do something, but it just doesn't.
I fully understand that there is a legit problem with the 360 design. I've read articles where the MS guys admit it: They launched before they had adequate testing. Everyone I know, EVERYONE has had to return their 360s at least once. But, most of them were placed in warm areas of the house, or in entertainment centers with little to no ventilation.
I guess a few of them just kind of tanked regardless of where they were.
BUT, with that in mind, I would have thought that since MS started extending warranty for RRODs and presumably "fixing" them, then why do people have to keep returning them? You would think that you get an RROD, you send it in, they give you the updated board etc, and that should be that.
It is ludicrous that anyone should have to return a 360 more then once. If MS is going to fix something, it should get fixed: None of this slap a bandaid on a bullet wound nonsense.
Considering all that, I think I'm probably more suprised that my 360 hasn't imploded. Those of us with launch 360s are few and far between.. and getting fewer all the time.
