Another OD deal: Brother Labeler and Weather clock/other comments

I went to my local OD on Sunday and I was looking around and I saw A Brother Electronic Labeling System (Model PT-65) for $8.95. I went to a different OD and saw a Model PT-65xx (I forget what the XX was) for $8.95 and the PT-65 were $29.99. I guess there was a screwup somewhere. After I bought mine (It did ring up for $29.99), the Cashier went to the manager and said "Do you know how much that labeler was?" as I was walking out! The OD chain is just so irregular, you never know what you are going to get!

Also, for those people who are still looking of old "hot deals". You might want to make a visit because I just picked up a weather radio for $1.88. I went to the same store back when they were hot and they said they were out. Turns out when they sell all the boxed, they pull the display. Eventually they get put out again. So keep you eyes peeled! :D

Finally, I went to OD on Wednesday (I usually make a daily trip to OD) they had about 5 of the IR masagers, 5 of the aromospheres, and other clearance items like the 88 cent organizers. When I went back today, all the clearance was gone! They had a table with a few things sitting on it that said "Last day to get clearance!". SO I guess they are starting to ship them back somewhere else or something. Can anyone comment on this?

Cheers!

"Can anyone comment on this?"

It is interesting, but seems like another example of throwing money away on useless junk simply because it is a "deal."

Several of the guys I work with have "It was too good a deal to pass up" syndrome and have spent themselves into bankruptcy in spite of six-figure incomes. They did it the old fashioned way--one credit card bill at a time.

Anyone who thinks that's cool should talk to one of these guys the day after their wife walks out on them. Oh, it's really f*cking cool. But at least they have a basement full of Brother Electronic Labeling Systems, weather radios, IR massagers, aromaspheres, and other piles of useless sh*t to play with.

Was that a good comment?

Peeps, I think that you need to chill out. I made my statement based on observation. When I go to OD, I do not take a cart and jam everything ending in .88 into it and run the the cash register waving my credit card. I was stating that those things were there (in large quantities) and now they are not. You have to look for the stuff mentioned here at your local OD. When you do that you see other deals. Some worthwhile, some not.

Relax a bit

My point, of course, is that a deal isn't inherently great just because it represents a savings off MSRP. Maybe the reason all this sh*t didn't sell the first time around is because it's of no real value to anybody.

I see too many people--in real life and on this forum--get sucked into the trap of thinking they need more things. When all is said and done, is anybody really going to look back on their life and think, "gee, I sure did get a greal deal on that aromosphere back in '01." Rather, we'll wonder where all the money went, and why we wasted so much g*ddam time shopping and so little time enjoying the things they have that are of REAL value--like our wives, our parents, our kids, and our friends.

Sure, there are lots of good deals out there. But we all need to learn to better appreciate the things that have real value in life. If we all just resolve to spend 25% less time shopping and, instead, spend that time together with other people, then it's a better world.

And Smigs--you asked for comments. The problem with a forum like this is that your post might not prompt the kind of responses you are hoping for. Next time, maybe you should simply specify that you only want people who agree with you to post. Sorry for the inconvenience. I gotta go kiss my kids good morning.

use of big words is not a prerequisite of a long winded comment, perhaps when you see the flaws in your logic you will someday(though Hell is more likely to freeze over) be able to understand my comment...

Peeps, thanks for saying that. You're right, of course.

What is your time worth? Do you have a job? I know people can suck down hours looking for hot deals on this and other sites, and calling and driving all over town to get a chunk of plastic they don't really need. I know, because I have. How much does that "save" when you 5 hours/week saving $20? Even if you save $200 every week, that is not that good a payback for tech workers. If you are a student, it might be different, but you could spend the time getting a part time job or even (gasp) doing schoolwork.

And if you consider buying things you don't need just because the price is right, I have a 1200 baud modem (maybe $140?) I bought when I had a broken Apple II at home, because the price was right. What is it worth now? What you buy early will probably be obsolete before you ever use it, if you ever do.

Now me the hypocrite will check a couple of more thread titles before I get back to life.

what if u buy useless cheap stuff that your kids like to play with? hehe

seriously though ....... we're all in here for the deals and I dont really care if other people get carried away.. that is there own fault. Many people get sucked into sales at retail stores... why don't you go there and blame the stores for putting out "SALE" and "50% off" signs and marking stuff down.

What I do not understand is who in this thread stated they were getting carried away? Maybe there was a miscommunication with my statement of comments wanted. I read here earlier that OD might not have these "hot deals" because they are going to start sending the stuff back to the distributer or whatever. I thought this might be a start. I am going to look for the thread and see if I can find it!

Cheers

I don't think they are going to stop the clearance, but just junk the stuff that is not selling on the clearance table. My OD still has a clearance table, so this must be a store manager decision. I don't think this clearance is over yet, more bargains could be in the works. Everything that ends in .88 will eventually have a lower price, but your store may not have any by that time.

Please stop flaming others© Posting a hot deal may save some one who is interested in it© You don't have to buy everything you see and is 50-75% off of MSRP© I did get some good deal here which are saving me money like walmart GC's 20% off, and with kids and walmart prices you can't beat that© I did get Iomega CD Burner which I don't need but it is as good as a CD for that price with a bonus high speed burner© It is up to the individual to get it or not©
Please do post if you find a good value, even though you don't need it© someone else who is looking for it will s¥h¤ave some dough©

they could stop if they want, it's self kontrol..that good if the ppl dont want to look @ hot deal, less competition for the rest of us..smigs thanks for letting us know the update of recent od hot deal..ppl that cannot kontrol their wallet or plastic is their own fault and not the hot deal fault..like the discover kard commercial, some ppl just can't take kare of their money, and should get 1 of those yellow lock that was shown on the commercial..i m very happy w/ my $5.25 sharp wizard that i obtained from od during the hot deal..it does everything a palm could do for way way less than a palm..

Peeps, thanks for one of the most honest and useful posts I've seen on this forum. I totally agree with how much time we can waste just in order to get another 'thing.' "Oh boy. I never knew I needed one of those, but at that price how can I resist."

Personally, I buy stuff to sell on eB*y. If somethings that good, I'll keep one of them - maybe selling it later when I get bored of it. This has allowed me to 'test' several digital cameras over the past few months. I look for a great price on a digicam, making sure that it sells for more than that price on eB*y. I use it for a while, seeing how the shots turn out (mostly pretty bad) and then get rid of it.

However, it is SO MUCH FKING WORK to do this I really have second thoughts. I have a young family and a good paying IT job. When looking at this form or hunting for deals cuts into quality time I find myself scratching my head wondering how I got into this mess in the first place. I think this is just another form of internet addiction.

The worst thing is dealing with eB*y. People think that you're Sears or Amazon.com or something! It's like, hey, you want a good deal on the friggin item or you want me to personally deliver and set the darn thing up for you.

I keep trying to sit down and list my 'crap' and get rid of it for good. But even that takes so much time. There doesn't even seem to be a really good tool out there that assists with this. Auctionwatch is ok, but still pretty lame though. And there's the 'do I use pictures or not' or 'how detailed should my description be' that probobly gets you more $$ but takes way too much time.

Aaaarghhhhh!

Again, Peeps, thanks for telling it like it is. You be cool.

Yea,sitting in front of puter and cruising net is - maybe - a waste of time, But today I was at home base getting kitchen stuff, office depot is nextdoor - I go in and check clearance rack - nothing much - but ....above the clearance shelf is about 10 gravis pro gamepads - I remembered people saying 1.88 or 2.88 - these were unmarked, I picked up 6 and went to checkout - they rang up as 1 cent each, she got the manager - he said 6 cents please...YEEHAWWWW
MSRP is 25$ each
hahahahaha
Thanks guys for the posts on OD - I finally scored.:D
