Another noob tire question

So the same truck I posted about yesterday (Link) still needs some new tires. The current tires are 235/75R15, and according to the local tire store, are rather hard to come by. I really don't care about the size of the tire, so long as it fits, and is compatible with the vehicle (1990 Chevy Scottsdale). Since this is admittedly a shitbeater, I don't want to spend a lot of money on it, and would preferably be looking for something used so I can get back on the road with it.

Would a 245/75R16 tire work on the truck? Why or why not?

Thanks.

The last # is the size of the rim the tires are meant to fit on. You have 15" rims and the tires you are asking about are 16" so no.

Why not just get the closest tire size? Then you can either A: realise you're driving a little faster or a little slower than the speedometer is showing, or B: get the speedometer recalibrated, which I'm fairly sure wouldn't cost much.

EDIT: Another option for you could be to find some really cheap 16" steelies with the same bolt pattern and then put on 235/70 R16 tires, which are far more popular.

ANOTHER EDIT: Your last option would simply be to buy your tires on line, from a place like the tire rack or other online sources. There are many many tires produced in your 235/75R15. Here is a direct link to all Highway all-season tires for light trucks. There are many other options if you included more than just all-season tires etc.

Does anyone think we could grab some 16" rims at the wrecker? I don't want to have to output much money for this truck ... I'd like to sell it later this spring too, so I guess I shouldn't entirely cheap out.

If you want to sell it then just get some new tires from tire rack, discount tire, or discount tire direct.
