Another non-techie question: best CD-burner software?

My neighbor called the other day to say that he'd purchased a burner and could I install it for him. He's totally non-computer literate; he can turn the thing on, use Word/Outlook/etc, but that's about it. I'm thinking Nero might be a bit over his head since it's not the most immediately user-friendly program out there. Any alternative ideas?

Maybe try that Roxio Easy CD Creator software. Seems to me that it's supposed to be pretty user friendly.

Yep.

Unless they've vastly improved from the earlier versions, I actually found Nero to be somewhat difficult to navigate and use. Other than the built in stuff from XP, I think Roxio/Adaptec EZ CD is the easiest to use.

Do you know what OS he's using?

I think Nero is extremely easy 5.5.5.10 or whatever came with my dvd burner
That's what I'm running now. Maybe if I walk him through it using their "burner wizard" thingy he'll get the hang of it. I think he mostly wants it to back up geneological database stuff (he's really into that).

DO NOT USE ROXIO EZ CD CREATOR! That program is a POS :| I had it and it used to crash endlessly on my new PC. Use Nero, a little hard to use at the beginning but then it gets very simple after a few burns.

Thanks for the input guys.....looks like I'll give Nero a shot. If I can figure out what all he wants the burner for and give him step by step instructions for each thing he want to do, he should be OK. He's in his 60's and knows nada about computers, so this should be interesting. 😉

They always bake me truckloads of brownies and stuff when I do PC fixit stuff for them tho, so everyone goes home happy. 😀

I never had a problem with either piece of software. I would recommend Easy CD Creator for it's ease of use.

Agreed. No issues with EZ-CD at all.

Only problem that I've had with Roxio is that version 5 has some incompatibility with XP/Win2k. I've tried installing it on a couple machines and it's nuked every one of them. After the third try I gave up and threw version 4 on there.

There's an update on Roxio's site which fixes that.
