Another newbie question

probably just the features like amount of usb ports/ raid/onboard sound or nic or wahtever

go with teh one iwth the features you need and/or want

Yep - it's the same chipset. The different versions are just what options the manufacturer decided to include in that specific model.

Do you mean the ASUS family of NForce 1 boards? If so the ones I know about are the A7N266e, this has full twin bank memory (the 420 chipset) with integrated graphics, DD 5.1 audio and an ethernet onboard.

The A7n266c is the came 420 chipset for twin bank mememory, and the integrated DD 5.1 audio but does not support the integrated graphics. This was a popular one with the gamers who did not want or need the GF2Mx200 graphics.

The A7n266vm, has the 220 chipset so does not support twin bank memory, it has integrated graphics and audio.
