Another new make install error...Help

this error has to do with the aureal drivers from sourceforge. I reinstalled mandy 8.0 installed kernel source and the make install got down to a point where it said :

cp -f au8830.o /lib/module/2.4.3-20mdk/misc
/sbin/depmod-a
make: ***[install] Segmentation fault (Core dumped)
/sbin/rmmod au8830
rmmod:module au8830 is not loaded
make: [Install] Error 1 ignored

anyone know how to fix this?
 
I got past the error by changing where I put the originall files before doing the make install. I put them in /etc them the make install worked. I did modprobe au8830 and the prompt returned with no errors so it should be good to go but i still have no sound. Any Ideas?
