did the PS3 get delayed?

Yep, now it's a March 07 release

Where did you see this? If you're just throwing it out there that's fine but I'm tired of looking for info on something that you may have made up. :p

Sony has announced that the launch date for PAL regions, including Australia, will be March next year. The original release date was to be this November 17th, the same date that the PlayStation 3 will be launching in North America.

doesnt affect the US

Glad someone cleared this up.

Hopefully this will aid in Blu rays demise so I can go ahead and adopt HD DVD.

That could take a long time, you should pick one up if you got some extra $$$. Even if HD-DVD fails, which I doubt, you have the best upconverting player on the market.

Has it actually been announced that Universal will only make HD-DVD, or is the head of the company in favor of it and going to make movies for both.

The article only implies that the head of the company prefers HD-DVD. To be honest, I don't understand why any movie company would want to release their movies to only one target group and decrease profits.

That has to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. Both formats use the same damn software and codecs, the only difference is how much a single layer can hold and who gets the royalty check. If you're going to pick a side, that's great, but be honest about it.

I still haven't seen any sales figures for HD-DVD / blu-ray players or discs.

HD-DVD is taking an early lead, and Sony keeps lurching drunkenly from one mistake to the next, but we've yet to see the effect of 500,000 PS3s on the HD wars.

"150 titles by the end of 2006" doesn't sound that impressive given theDigitalBits.com says there are now 63,539 regular DVD titles (and probably another 10,000+ porn titles).

Uhhh no. Not yet anyways. HD-DVD is using VC-1, whereas Blu-Ray is still using MPEG-2. Eventually, Blu-Ray will be using VC-1, though who knows when

And right now isn't 3 months in to the future, 3 years in to the future. Both can and will be using VC-1 at some point, so the claim that somehow HD-DVD is better is silly, because any current differences are due to how the manufacturer sets it up.

They are talking about now in the article...not 3 years in the future. A company such as Universal does not want to off what SHOULD happen in the future. That is why companies work so hard to make an impressive showing right off the bat. First impressions count.

They also support Blu-Ray.

The amount of misinformation in this thread is amazing.

Universal has never supported BD - it's always been HD-DVD. They will be the last studio to switch over to BD if HD-DVD slowly loses the battle.

BD at the moment is finally getting releases that are comparable to what HD-DVD has been releasing since day 1.

Unfortunately, a lot of the hardware BD vendors are practically giving the market away to HD-DVD due to many blunders.

Eventually BD might be an equal to HD-DVD, but BD is still more expensive.

I remember back when the first shots were being fired in the format war, everyone was like "ZOMG BLU-RAY ROXXOR!"

And I was always "HD-DVD is the superior format" and everyone was like "ZOMG U R STUPIDZ"

If they are planning on releasing BD titles, can you explain why 40 or so of the 59 current releases in HD-DVD format are from Universal, and not one Universal title has released in the 27 Blue Ray releases? Why are there no press releases out there even talking about Universal releasing BD titles in the future?

Universal's parent company is a big competitor to Sony and will not allow their titles on BD.

Universal will be the last movie company out there to move to BD, just the same as Sony would be the last movie company to move to HD-DVD.

Just because they havent released any titles yet doesnt mean that Universal isnt supporting Blu-Ray. New Line & HBO support HD-DVD & they havent released any titles yet. This isnt brain surgery-do a search on google for companies supporting Blu-Ray or Blu-Ray & Universal.

BTW, I am by no means a Blu-Ray supporter. I own a Toshiba HD-A1 & 29 HD-DVD titles

it costs more to do both limiting profits.. which in some cases are already very slim..
basically Sony is killing themselves not only in the game market but also in Home Video as well... any other old peeps remember Betamax... Sony does it again..
