maybe youre using settings that are way to high

defaults used for comparison dont have AA, aniso on etc

did u do them after a fresh reboot? nothing significant running in teh background? (like youre not rendering a movie or anything right...)

i dunno post your settings
what drivers are you using?

Just rand 3dmark03 and got 2550 points... rofl.

I have AA and AF turned on in the ATI setup, but doesnt 3dmark turn them off for the benchmarks? Not running anything in the background... usint the cat 3.8's.

What settings do you want to know?

This is the first system ive ever built, and my first upgrade since 1999, so im just a little bit of a newb :/

Turn them off in the drivers and try again.

When you do turn the AA/AF off, you might want to reboot, I've always got better numbers after the reboot for some reason.

Case/Powersupply: Coolermaster ATC-201 w/ Antec Tru430

Speakers: Klipsch 2.1
Mobo: Asus SK8N
Processor: FX-51
Memory: 1 gig Kingston HyperX PC3200 registered
Soundcard: Audigy 2
HDD's: 2 WD Raptors in RAID-0
Optical: Plextor 8x DVD+RW
Video: Radeon 9800 XT

Total for everything was about $2500... which is actually a good price, considering what i got. I got the Monitor off the FS/T forums for $450, and the motherboard/processor/mobo for a grand from someone here too. Radeon was from best buy, and the rest was from newegg.

My last system was a Dell 400mhz P2, so i figured a big upgrade was in order. :p

And i turned the AA and AF down to 2x, and i got 6684. Better, but i think it should still be higher. I just downloaded the build 330 patch and i restarted the puter, so i'll see if it gets any better now.

You got the mobo AND the motherboard PLUS the processor for a grand?

Was wondering when you'd catch that... I didn't know there was a Windows 64? What's the difference?

It's a beta version of Win64. ETA for release is 1Q 04.

I've got regular 32 bit XP installed right now... because there's no real reason to have the 64 bit version installed. Nothing to take advantage of it. Plus i didnt really want a beta version on my leet new system. :p

That sound about right? Is there room for improvement?

That is just below 20x what I get. :Q

I think your improvements now will come from overclocking. That is, if your only goal is to improve those 3dmark numbers. Otherwise, you should definitely be playing games or neffing on the forums @ uber high speed rather than running 3dmark. Your scores are fantastic.

Is aa and af still on 2x? You should turn them off completely when you benchmark if you want to compare to others scores. That's still a hell of a good score though. That setup should fly in just about every game out.

It's set to "application preference" now. Setting it manually would only allow it as low as 2x, there was no option to turn it off completely. :/

And yeah, its pretty good - i was playing Morrowind with 6x AA and 16X AF in 1280x740 with viewable distance set to max and getting 40fps :D

This is the first system ive ever built, and my first upgrade since 1999, so im just a little bit of a newb :/

Using 3.8 cats? Want ure system to explode? Usualy when you update the mobo drivers the problems go away. Maybe your ram is timing very slow? Try upping the timings. If that fails then try the futuremark forums as they have about 20 of these a day. Lol my friends geforce 4 ti got 18k with a little cooling.

If all you're doing is trying to get a higher score, don't bother... just be happy with it how it is. If you're trying to set a record... again, don't bother... cause there's people with overclocked FX's running 2.7-2.8 Ghz on extreme cooling posting numbers up around 28,000.
But hey... whatever floats ur boat... if you just wanna go higher, try reducing image quality and mip map quality etc.
