My guess is Bobby Darin. I remember the scene where Ray Liotta's character goes into a nightclub and he is immediately moved to the front of the room right in front of a singer who buys him some champagne.

EDIT: Everybody wonders why the song is called Unchained Melody. Well, that's because it was the theme song in an old, forgotten prison movie called Unchained. If you're looking for a more contemporary singer who redid the song for Goodfellas, I'm gonna guess Chris Isaacs.
