I just bought a used athlon setup, after a few weeks I decided to change the cooling system I'm using. Then, I decided to unlock it with the pencil trick. I don't know where I went wrong exactly, maybe I cracked the core, maybe I connected the L1 dots wrong, maybe not enough AS3... when I turned my system on, I smell smoke after about 5 seconds. I turned the PSU off immediatly, it was too late. The core leaked orange stuff on the bottom of the HSF, the side of it is burnt orange, and the underside of it looks and smells like toast. Overclocking is not for me.

I just hope the KT7A isn't fried...

Anyone have a spare 1ghz athlon?
 
sorry to hear that mate - I got an AXIA Y athlon that I don't need any more, but you're quite a distance away!
