Just saw it on the local news.

5 tons of pot. They brought in a national guard chinook to lift it all out.

They found it 300 yards from a middle school.

Jesus, that's a lot of weed. Though for every find like this dozens other are never located.

Even the police know the total futility of the drug war. I used to work for a police agency that had just seized a tractor trailer full of weed, one narc cop I talked to just shrugged and said it made almost zero difference.

I've worked with the DEA before. It's estimate that interdiction stops only 10% of illegal drugs from reaching the market.

But just beacuse you can't catch every killer doesn't mean you shouldn't catch any.

Drug users are not the same as murderers. All this is doing is helping to keep the price of drugs high which makes it very lucrative for the producers.

It also makes it dangerous for the producers and sellers. The risk of being arrested by law enforcement or killed in gang wars is significant.

I'd say that even 10% is an optimistic estimate.

The vast majority of the crime and violence associated with drugs is a direct result of their prohibition. Apparently we learned nothing from what happened after the 18th Amendment was ratified....

Isn't it ironic that pot kills less people than the war trying to prevent its use?

Legalize it, tax it. That saves lives, and it saves money. It makes it more difficult for children to get their hands on it. It takes money away from gangs and drug lords, and puts more money into legitimate businesses, workers, and taxpayers' pockets.

And, I would bet half the big busts are just corrupt DEA taking out competition in exchange for cash.

The War on Drugs is great business for our police/prison industrial complex, not to mention drug users are left wing hippies and the right must fight drugs just out of rage that some people aren't miserable. Oh yeah, and drugs fund terrar!

I smoked a bong once, and it turns out that because of this I actually am responsible for 9/11, global warming, the national deficit, and illegal immigration.

My bad.

The higher the price, the greater the reward, the higher the reward the more likely people will be willing to take that risk. Self defeating circle, just legalize the shiz already. I trust uncle sam would have no problem wasting the bazillions in tax revenue it would generate, I have faith in our government.

Notice it was found on an energy suppliers property in Texas, must have been GWB's secret stash.....

War on drugs isn't perfect, but I don't want to live in a country that legalizes all kinds of drugs as some seem to foolishly think is appropriate.

There is a major difference between heroin and pot. Seriously, I would love to see a study on which is safer Pot or the extremely common anti-depressants that are prescribed.

You can get better drugs by going to a depression screening. Depression drugs are called Happy Drugs.

We should only make those drugs illegal that truly destroy peoples lives. And I dont mean those drugs that destroy peoples lives because they get felony records because of them, I mean those drugs that destroy your brain and physically kill you.

That is probably the case. Legalizing weed is fine with me.

Nicotine and TCH are both drugs that affect the brain.

Both should either be legal or illegal.

BTW it's 4:20 CST

"Since its creation more than 120 years ago, the Dallas Police Department has created an atmosphere of ethical, caring behavior. The 2,977 sworn officers and 556 civilians, who make up the department, take special pride in helping to make Dallas a safe place to live, work and visit."

From here.

The reason you can overlook that much is because unless you are close it just looks like any other vegitation. as long as you cover it with trees on the edges it is camoflauged. This happens everywhere in the US (a lot in Hawaii) just since we do everything bigger in Texas this was a huge bust.

I see you're from the area. I know several cops from local police forces, including Dallas. Dallas PD has been offering big hiring bonuses for years, but they're still WAY short of the number of officers they need. They simply don't pay enough down the line, and the job is too risky to draw officers from the relatively lucrative, low risk suburbs.

Except for that producer that got caught? And those other producers who are working to avoid being caught?

No, no....This doesn't make economic sense at all

Mind you, I'm quite indifferent to the legalization of marijuana. There's just a serious break in logic in your thinking.
