So the Delta was screaming on my Swiftech, so I got a Papst TYP 612 NHH. This thing makes as much noise as the Delta did. I did a search and the Panaflow by Panasonic is supposed to be quiet.

I have found case fans by Panaflow but not cpu fans, can anyone tell me where to get one?

TIA

Case fan, CPU fan, there is no difference. As long as the fan is the correct size for your heatsink, you should have no problems.

I need a 60x60x25....but more so I am concerned about the RPM's needed to cool a 1.4 ghz T-bird...

my current fan... 33 CFM - Rotation speed: 6850 RPM - Noise level: 43 dBA -----CPU Temp at idle 53 deg C
Panaflo-- ... 14.1 CFM - Rotation speed: 3200 RPM - Noise level: 24 dBA -----CPU Temp ???

Any ideas on how hot it will run with that fan ?

"I need a 60x60x25....but more so I am concerned about the RPM's needed to cool a 1.4 ghz T-bird..."

RPM's are how many times the fan rotates per minute. CFM is the amount of air the fan moves. CFM's cool the processor not the RPM's.

If you want to go quiet you could use a fan adapter that would allow a larger fan (120mm, 92mm, 80mm) than your 60mm one. A larger fan requires fewer RPM's to move the same amount of air than a smaller fan does and thus, it's quieter.

Added pics:
60mm-92mm Fan adapter
92mm Panaflow L1A

The 92mm Panaflow would flow more air than your fans and be quiter. Just check to see if you have room.

Try to see if you can mount an 80mm fan, or get a heatsink that will allow for it. Low rpm 60mm fans produce too little airflow. Much better off getting an 80mm low rpm fan. In general , try to stay away from any 60mm fan, they aren't just noisy, but make a higher pitch noise that I just can't stand.

So I purchased the above linked 92mm Panaflow and adapter. Everything installed fine. I booted up an watched the temperature reach 70 and got a BSOD, and so I shut it down. Rechecked to see if the fan was blowing the proper way, which it was. Seems the adapter is restricting the airflow quite a bit. There goes $40 well spend. Put the Delta screamer back on, and down to the low 50's.

It was quiet however when the Panflow was on.

What is quietest HSF that will cool a 1.4 G T-bird? I am not overclocking. I read the HSF review, but I wanted to get some information from people actually using HSF's in their systems.

BTW case temp is in the high 20's ( 3 x 80mm Panaflows)

Try the 92mm Panaflo setup with the fan sucking instead of blowing.

with those god awful temps, i have to wonder about your heatsink and/or case cooling.

1) u should have at least a single exhaust fan in your case, behind the cpu drawing hot air out of the case.
2) your heatsink should be spec'd to cool a 1.4ghz t-bird (not XP, whcih runs cooler)...if not, u're using an inadequate heatsink...oh wait,...u say swiftech - which model?...that hardcore overpriced version???...if so, it's odd taht yoru t-bird is running so hot...again, check your case air circulation...make sure it isn't a mess fo cables in there blocking air flow and have at least a single exhaust fan...an intake is recommended as well - use those silent case fans u have handy (i.e. the 92mm)....also, use thermal compound vs. thermal pad (on the sink) to make contact between teh cpu and heatsink...it tends to provide better cooling

I was using the Swiftech MCX370-OA with the stock Papst fan on it and wanted to get it quieter. I got one of the 80mm to 60mm adaptors and tried an L1 and M1 Panaflo, and a 36cfm Sunon. All were quieter than the Papst but none cooled as well. The L1 ran alomst 10C hotter than the stock Papst, the M1 and the Sunon ran 5C hotter. I don't think these adaptors are the way to go, I think too much backflow turbulence is created. I lived with the stock Swiftech setup for a while and went to the Alpha 8045 with the Sunon fan. Noticably quieter than the Swifty (also a lower pitch sound - not as hard on my ears) and a few degrees cooler as well. Tried the L1 Panaflo on this but was running 5-7C hotter, either sucking or blowing, than the stock Swiftech.
