I sent this blurb to Logitech tonight... anyone here have any ideas?

I have a few issues with the wheel.

1) When using MS Office Compatible Scroll Only, scrolling in IE is very responsive and I am able to bind commands to the mousewheel up and down functions in games. However, it takes scrolling functionality away from many other programs such as mIRC, AIM, JBuilder 6, and Visual Basic 6 just to name a few.

2) With Office Compatibility unchecked, I am able to scroll in all applications, but now scrolling in IE is much less responsive. I am also unable to bind functions to the mousewheel up and down actions in games.

Are these issues known and being worked on? Are they known and not being addressed? Or is there some issue with my OS or these programs?

It's a known issue with Logitech Mouseware that the wheel doesn't seem to respond properly. Personally I use the Offifce compatible scroll and haven't noticed any problems apart from the here and there required extra mouse click to move the focus to a certain window. Also my wheel works in games like RTCW and MOHAA. There is a register fix for it somewhere on Logitech site. The link was posted here at Anandtech forums not too long ago.

Anyone else have this issue? Logitech's response was pretty lousy:

Thank you for using Logitech's Electronic Technical Support. My name is Donald. The following information addresses your original question. You may wish to print this out and/or save this on your computer.

Please download MouseWare 9.41 or higher. This release of MouseWare can be found at the following URL:
www.logitech.com/cf/support/mousefiles.cfm
Uninstall the Logitech Mouseware and any other pointing software from ad/remove programs in the control panel. Shut down the system, unplug the mouse.
If you are upgrading your Logitech pointing device hardware it is stongly
recommended that you first install this latest version of MouseWare with the mouse unplugged and restart your system with the mouse unplugged. Then shut the system down, and connect your new Logitech pointing device hardware and restart the system.
Make sure when you are connecting the Receiver, it is directly to the computer and are not using any hubs, switchboxes or cables.
Make sure the receiver is 12-18" away from any electrical devices like the PC or monitor.
For Optical Mice, make sure you are using a light colored mouse pad, the lighter the better.
Once MouseWare 9.41 or higher is installed, try using your Logitech pointing device in the problematic application. You may need to enable Office 97 Compatible scrolling in the Logitech Mouse Properties Box for some scrolling issues. To do this, open the Logitech Mouse Properties box and click on the "Buttons" tab. In the Scroller section, place a checkmark in the box labeled "Use Office 97 Compatible scroll only". Click the OK button to close the Mouse Properties box. Now launch the problematic application and test the wheel. You may also want to go to internet options in the control panel. Here click on the advanced tab, and uncheck smooth scrolling, then click apply. Another thing to try is go to display properties, uncheck transition effects in the effects tab(Win 2000), uncheck effects in the appearance tab(Win XP).

If you have additional technical questions regarding your product, please visit our web site at www.logitech.com and submit your question.

Thank you for your interest in Logitech.

Regards,
Donald

I've always disabled smooth scrolling... what a horrible feature!
