For what it's worth, Stone hasn't actually made a good blockbuster movie in a long, long time. Though I will say Alexander was at least passable.

It's almost as big a failure as the real Bush administration!

No wait, it's not even close.

Came in 4th on its debut weekend. Just barely pulled in $10m dollars. Pathetic.

Beat out by Max Payne, Beverly Hills Chihuahua and The Secret Life of Bees.

When is Hollywood going to learn?

Funny thing is it failed (well ok it failed because it wasn't a good movie at all but I digress) as much as anything because it wasn't a liberal bush bashing movie. Most left leaning people feel it treats bush with FAR more respect than he deserves. Basically paints him as a weak individual in the wrong place at the wrong time to be used by others in the party. Paints him as a pitiful character. Not many of us on the left pity him for anything!

Uh, you're talking about liberal movies when "An American Carol", which I saw as many ads for, made a whopping total of $6 million over two weekends. It's already out of theaters. Now that's a complete and utter fail. $10.5 million was probably a little low for W., but most political movies don't do that well.

Uh, it hasn't FAILED at all! It cost just 30 million to make, and got generally good reviews, so it looks like it's going to be both a critical AND a financial success.

The OP's deliberately misleading title is one huge bag of lying, stinking bullshit.

Everything that I have heard has stated that the movie isn't really a bash on Bush.

Corbett is a long-standing member of the right-wing cult.

He calls this movie Bush bashing when reality-based people have prety much all said it's a 'sympathetic' portrait of Bush, albeit one that does show his behavior for what it is.

Liberal sites in particular expressed disappointment that it wasn't really anti-Bush.

So he's delusional on that; and he's pretty misleading about how well it did.

The comparison to 'American Carol' is apt - that was a whiny movie based on right-wing fallacies about liberals. It bombed.

But who is one of the few who did waste their money on it? IIRC, Corbett.

I tend to be interested in an Oliver Stone movie, but I'm just not interested in Bush. We know enough about his evil behavior that the movie doesn't offer much for me to go.

I was going to raise that as a counter-example of a conservative politically-oriented film. The reality is that political movies tend to do badly regardless of political stripe (though admittedly there are more liberal-oriented movies).

The movie had a production budget of $25m, and made $10m the first weekend. I'm pretty sure that after it's run in the theater, it'll come out to well above it's production budget, so how is that a failure?

I'd take that kind of "failure" any day of the week and twice on Sundays!

apparently you have not seen the movie, it does not bash George W Bush. most people will come out of the movie feeling empathy for W.

congratulations on the failed assumption.

It's overseas releases will quadruple those numbers, at a minimum - it will be a financial success.

Have you seen it?

I haven't seen it, but heard that it documents the one accomplishment of bush's life and that was overcoming substance addiction.

Corbett, you are a mean and simple person. stone could make a movie about you but that probably wouldn't make much either.

Oops. ;) When I first saw ads for 'W' I thought it was satire. Based on previews it doesn't look very good but I'll check it out as a rental from BB when it's released. Sad to see 'An American Carol' fail. I guess conservatives are too focused on Fox News and AM talk radio to go to the movies.

Can't make a winning movie about a loser of a President. Everybody is tired of the dumbass in the WH and doesn't want to see him again.

We will see it tonight.
Problem is, the film has VERY limited theater showings.
Only the artsy theater here is showing it, just like with most Michael Moore movies.
Not one mainstream movie theater is showing this locally.
So I'd bet THAT fact has a lot to do with its popularity.
If the one local theater showing it here is packed tomorrow night, like they are with the Michael Moore films, then the mainstream theaters will pick it up in the next few weeks.

ps. Note, I refuse to see another film with talking animals.
