Is it OK to eat kimchee everyday? I bought a big jar and eat it with every meal! Anything bad in the seasoning, like mercury, lead, or other toxins?
 
us koreans eat it with every meal.

I can't live without it.

I dunno about heavy metals or other toxins in it, but it has lots of Vitamin C!
 
unless you have tuna in your kimchee, i think it's ok 🙂

Kimchi has been cited by Health Magazine as one of the world's five "healthiest foods," with the claim that it is rich in vitamins, aids digestion, and may even prevent cancer.[1] The health properties of kimchi are due to a variety of factors. Kimchi is usually made with cabbage, onions, and garlic, all of which have well-known health benefits. Kimchi also has active and beneficial bacterial cultures, like yogurt. Lastly, kimchi contains liberal quantities of hot pepper, which has been suggested to have health benefits as well.

In East Asia, the low number of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) cases in Korea is sometimes attributed to the Korean habit of eating large quantities of kimchi, although no definitive link between kimchi consumption and SARS resistance has ever been scientifically established [3]. There is some evidence that indicates that kimchi may be used to treat avian influenza in birds. Scientists at Seoul National University say they fed an extract of kimchi to 13 infected chickens - and a week later 11 of them had started recovering. There is currently no evidence of its effects on humans. [2]

What healthful properties kimchi may have are disputed, and the dish has also been linked to negative health effects. In a June 2005 study of gastric cancer risk, South Korean researchers uncovered a 50% higher risk of stomach cancer among heavy consumers of kimchi, and suggested high kimchi consumption may be responsible for the fact that rates of gastric cancer in Korea and Japan are 10 times higher than in the United States. [4]. However, talc, an irritant used in white rice in both countries has been posed as a possible alternative cause. [5] Some studies have linked its consumption to a reduced risk of gastric cancer, but other studies have linked consumption of certain types of kimchi (containing radish) to an increased cancer risk. [6] [7] The very high concentrations of salt in kimchi itself and the fish sauce used for flavoring may also be an issue, as high salt intake can cause problems such as hypertension.

My girlfriend (korean) is white-washed for the most part, but in her house, they are very korean cultured. They eat kimchee everyday; I think they even eat it for breakfast sometimes.
 
I grew up thinking kimchee was the Korean word for sh!t...My dad used to saythat referenced " the kimchee hit the fan"...I was 18 before I found out what it REALLY was! He picked it up in Korea during the Korean war, and I never knew if it meant he thought it tasted like sh!t or what....but I liked it...sort of an acquired taste for us "non-orientals", :roll: but pretty good...

I love it and I'm white. I don't have any at my dorm. But at home, I eat it all the time. When we have it in stock, I'll eat some for almost every meal. It's high in fiber and Vitamin C.

korean meals at breakfast traditionaly are no different than meals for lunch or dinner.

it's rice and kimchee and mb a few other side dishes thrown in.

rice and kimchee appear in almost any korean meal.

I had it first when I wentto a korean/japanese restaurant praised for its sexcelent Sushi. The sushi was great, and so was the kimchee.
 
All I know is that when I was in the Army, all the strippers were Korean just off post and they had the nastiest breath. Another guy told me it was Kimchee that does it. Man, the odor around those chicks was fvcking horrific. It was a good deterrent to keep you from hitting on them if you were drunk.
