Just something that struck me as odd:

? Strong academic credentials (3.5+ GPA and 1350+ SAT)

Asking for your SAT score after graduating from college?

Oops, did a blank reply.

I'm a consultant, joined the company right after graduation. It's a good job with a good pay.

The company has always been actively recruiting, but we have more openings this Summer than usual because a good number of consultants & sr. consultants are going to business school this Fall.

I'm surprised not many people are interested. There are also a couple more positions that are more technical:
- Customer Support Representative (Level-1)
- Sr. QA Engineer

Click on the "Current Opportunities" link on the first post to find out more.

As you probably already know, consulting experiences can differ vastly depending on the types of project, the clients and the project managers.

Since Verticalnet is a tech/software firm, I believe the work we do is different from what you had experienced (I'm assuming your firm is strategic/management consulting?).

A typical engagement would be working closely with the client to understand their needs and requirements, and working with our developers (in US and India) to ensure a satifying, and timely delievery.

As for my experiences, I started my first project co-consulted with a big name stragetic/management consulting firm, and since then have been working with them on various projects. My next engagement will finally be Verticalnet's own project, and I'm looking forward to working through a complete dev life cycle.

Oh, and travel policy... It depends on where the project is. If it's domestic, I get to go home at least once a week (Travel = 20% - 80%). Many domestic projects do not require traveling at all. If the project is in Europe though, I get to go home only once every 3 weeks.

Sorry, I can't answer that question for you. You should contact the HR, and find out.

Contact them and ask about salary is a sure way to leave bad impression on recruiter.

If you phrase your question right, then you are not leaving any bad impression. Also the HR is not the desicion maker when it comes to hiring a consultant.

The last thing I want to do is give an inaccurate estimate and be liable for it.

The salary range for a sr. consultant (a wide range I'm providing here) is probably 60k - 100k. Probably another 10k if you have an advanced degree.

Hope this is helpful.

The URL is .asp, and the position descriptions are in word docs only. It makes me think I might not be a good fit. I wouldn't mind moving back to chicago though...

Here's the ranking in our Consulting Services:

Consultant < Sr. Consultant < Engagement Manager < Account Director < VP

You can see that Sr. Consultants are actually not as senior as the title indicates.

To reiterate my previous post; I really don't know how much the Sr. Consultants are making, as I'm still a lowly Consultant.
