Ok heres the scoop:

My computer was running sluggish, so I decided to reformat. Everything went smooth, I installed Sp2 and all the security updates, along with Windows Defender. I went on about my day with no issues. Then all of a sudden, BAM! My internet stopped working. I cant get online, cant connect to AIM, no BF2, nothing. I tried 3 different network cards, nothing worked. There is another computer hooked up to the same hub as mine and it works just fine on the internet. I switched the network cables between the 2 computers and mine still doesnt work, and the other still worked. I tried to repair the connection on mine but again that did nothing. I took my computer off the hub and ran the cable directly into my computer and still nothing. The activity lights blink on my network cards as if the internet is working, and on the router upstairs the activity light is blinking too, but alas no internet on the computer. The only other thing I can think of is to reformat again to attempt to fix it, but that is a huge pain in the ass.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Go to the device manager and make sure windows doesnt have an issues with the network card. Once you check this, open the command prompt (Start> Run>cmd) or Windows Key + R and type cmd. Try some basic trouble shooting commands, try to "ping www.google.com" if that fails, try "ping 64.233.167.99" that IP is an IP used by google, the reason the 2nd one could work if if you have a DNS issue.

Also try ipconfig /all and see if you happen to even have a valid IP address from your router, your looking for something in the 10.x.x.x / 172.16.x.x / 192.168.x.x range (assuming NAT). If your ipconfig tells you that you have a 169.254.x.x address, this means that windows was unable to contact your router and obtain an IP (I'm guessing that your ISP is using DHCP and has not staticly assigned you an IP address) and pulled an IP from the APIPA range.

Go look at the TCP/IP properties of your connection, verify that Obtain IP address / DNS servers automatically is checked and an IP is has not been statically set. Sounds like you might have connectivity to the router (if your pulling a good IP) but your gateway isnt set right.

No dice.

There are no issues with any of the 3 network cards, windows says they are all working properly.

When I tried to ping google, it didnt work, told me to check what I typed or some crap. I tried to ping the IP address, and it would not work either.

My IP address is a 192.168 address. I also verified that those 2 things were check.

Still suffering here.

default gateway correctly set to your routers address? Should probably be 192.168.0.1
