Additionally, I have instructions for people having
problems with either the Umax 2010U or 1600U since they are similiar. I do not have either scanner, so try at your own risk.
Instructions:
IF you are still having driver problems in Windows 2000 or
98, here is a suggestion that works with other 2000 series
Umax scanners:
Windows 2000:
1. install VistaScan 3.52*SU* (not 3.52U !!!)
2. install windows 2000 updater
3. UN-INSTALL THE DRIVER
a. Use Umax's uninstall program.
b. Hit the CTRL-ALT-DELETE keys on your keyboard to call up
the Close Program window. Highlight a program besides Explorer and Systray
a single mouse click and hit the End Task button.
Repeat for all programs but Explorer and Systray
c. Delete the Vistascan and/or Umax folder from the c: drive.
d. Delete all Twain.dll files inside the Windows folder:
Twain.dll, Twain32.dll, Twain_32.dll.
e. Delete all Twain folders from inside the Windows folder:
Twain, Twain32, Twain_32.
f. In Windows, go to Start, choose Find, and choose Files or Folders.
Find and delete all instances of Vista by typing "Vista".
Clicking the Find Now button, then pulling down the Edit menu and choosing
Select All, and finally pulling down the File menu and choosing Delete.
g. Find and delete all instances of Umax by "Umax" using the above procedure.
h. Delete the driver program group.
i. Empty the Recycle Bin.
4. install VistaScan 3.73
5. delete the scanner out of the device manager and reboot to let Win2K
re-detect it.
6. reboot to finish.
7. you can also install magicscan 4.3 (optional: see below link for instructions)
Windows 98
Repeat above procedure except installing windows 2000 updater.
Windows ME:
If you have any problems remove the scanner from the device manager
in safemode. This will cure the issue. Let Win ME re-detect it after reboot.
