wow and people still want to live in Florida...

how common are these hurricanes?? are they yearly things?? every 10 years?? 100 years??

That blows...why can't NJ ever get hurricanes? I'm kind of interested to be in one. But then again which might be even more interesting is that if NJ gets one that means NYC will get one and when you channel 100mph air through the tight building corridors that would result in like 300mph wind.

There is a hurricane season that lasts for about half a year. Anytime in these months you might get hurricanes. Florida has been pretty lucky until recently, most of the bad ones have went back out to sea or struck elsewhere. This was good considering Florida is the US's penis flopping in the Atlantic daring hurricanes to hit it... :eek:

For the folks in Florida, the NOGAPS and UKMET tracks are the ugliest. If this storm stays Cat3/Cat4 and follows something close to those paths it's going to pound areas that are not even close to recovering from Charley and Frances.

Nah you'll be fine. The same thing happen to me durning Charley but we went down to Miami but it didn't affect us at all the cruise was awesome no rain at all except for a drizzle one night.. only for a few minutes though.

Those C130's (Hurricane Hunters) are not just collecting info on the storms. They are also planting gadgets that can control the direction of the storm and intensity.

Notice that no storms have headed toward TX this season.
