Legally,is there a limit in the number of computers(personally owned) you can allow to connect to your wired/wireless router just for internet access? I have heard something in the past that Windows XP limits it to 5 machines at a time, what im not too sure about is wether this only pertains to "network" as in file/printer sharing etc. or it also affects sharing internet access.

Nope, it is Not affecting Internet Sharing.

Between them WinXP Pro can maintain 10 concurrent connection, and WinXP Home 5.

When a computer is using the Internet there is No relation to the number of other computers on the Network since it is Not connected through them.

Most Routers can support 256 computers.

They'll support it, but most home routers will start to have significant traffic problems when more than about half a dozen clients are accessing the internet.
