It's to protect our home values from self-important people like you who fail to understand/care how your actions affect others.

LOL.. Get real.

Again, I'll do whatever the fuck I want, again within the constraints of federal and state law, and you can all kiss my ass.

I don't care how painting my house neon orange or having an 8' tall fence affects you, you're right. Why? It's none of your business! My property, my fence, my choice.

If you don't like the color of my house or the height of my fence, you can move.

This is why I hope I don't have any neighbors within a good mile...... Everyone thinks they can be up in everyone else's business.

Possibly not since the article say that the HOA is not yet fully formed...

The CC&Rs are generally in place before the first home is sold, though parts may not become active until a certain percentage of the phase is sold.

Really? How about the HOA who foreclosed on a National Guardsman over $800 while he was on active duty?
http://www.wfaa.com/news/consumer/G...o-foreclosure-is-leaving-Texas-112686954.html

Or how about the Virginia condo-owner who got foreclosed upon b/c her condo association put off needed repairs then slapped her with a $12,000 assessment?
http://www.hoalegislate.com/archive...home-because-of-failure-to-fund-reserves.html

Or the woman who lost her house when she fell behind in her HOA dues, caught up, but couldn't pay $900 in atty fees?
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/02/10/texas-home-owners-association-takes-home-legal-fees/

In THIRTY-SEVEN states HOAs do not have to go before a judge to justify seizure of a property. Your home can be taken from you for as little as $1 without oversight.

I guess people are going to have to actually read the CC&Rs before buying into an HOA community if they want to make sure this kind of thing cannot happen to them.

No one is forced to buy into an HOA. By law, you are able to read the CC&Rs and meeting minutes before the close of escrow.

I do not cry for people who fail to read the documents related to the biggest purchase of their lives.

If you were to buy into an HOA community, that would not be the case.

Of course, you seem to be the kind of person who caused HOAs to be invented in the first place.

I highly doubt that. It's not like I don't like to have nice things. And of course I'd likely never really paint my house neon orange, but the idea that someone could tell me that I can't if I did want to makes me very angry.

I wouldn't want to live in an HOA type neighborhood in the first place. I don't care how well everyone's paint matches or that their yards are nice - cookie cutter neighborhoods are disgusting.

If you bought into an HOA community, one of the people telling you that would, in effect, be you.

Hence why I wouldn't be interested. ;)

None of the places on our favorites list are HOA material. We want acreage, farm animals, greenhouses, a greywater duck pond, and a huge, noisy diesel backup generator.

Something like this....

Take that, HOA's! :p

Those house or deck mounted flags are so "Trailer Court". Better to use a regulation flag and pole.

Your problem is that you think it's simply a matter of people "being all up in your business."

At least you know you can't function as a well adjusted adult in a community and have taken the appropriate measures

This.
