I am not sure where to post this so Mods please move as needed

Up until recently I had my google voice setup with itself being a group member with a certain greeting now all of a sudden it does not work and wanted to see if anyone else had theirs setup and working the same (or another) way that is working

When someone would call my GV number it would ring my mobile and show my GV as the caller ID. That way I knew how to answer it. If I did not answer it would go to a custom voicemail greeting. Anyone that called my mobile directly would show their actual number as the caller ID and if I did not answer it went to another greeting. Now both greetings were GV greetings and GV handled all the voicemails. To set this up I had to create a group in GV and assign it the custom voice mail greeting. I then created a contact that had MY GV number listed as their number.

So to simplify

Call to GV number > forward to my mobile and display my GV # as caller ID > if not answered went to greeting #2

Call to mobile number > ring mobile and show actual caller id > if not answered went to greeting #1

Is there any easier way to do this?

There's no easier way because you are circumventing GV when you have people dial your cell directly.

in voice setting-> phone, there's Activate Google voicemail on this phone options. This would allows GV to handle any call directly to your mobile number.

Right but you have the option to have GV handle voice mail for your cell number as well.

Already have it setup that way. Basically you could call either my direct cell or GV and it would ring the same physical phone. Based on who was calling (outside caller or GV number) determined which VM box you went to

It's doing what you want. I don't know what you're asking.. anyway to make it easier? That seems to be the easiest way no? One number goes to a certain vm message, the other to a different one. What are you looking for?

Perhaps I am not clear.

No, it WAS doing what I want. I was seeing if
1. it was working for others (as I am pretty sure I am not the only one doing this) and
2. if anyone was doing something similar with a different (easier) setup.
