another FSB/mem speed ?

I ended up buying the 4600 X2 Amd processor and an ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe NF570SLI AM2 MB. A buddy of mine hooked me up with a KVR533D2 1gig stick of ram.
Am I creating a bottleneck by using the 533 stuff? I don't plan on OCing. I'm not real clear on the actual relationship of the FSB and mem speed thing.

Athlon 64s/X2s don't really have an FSB as such. The memory operates at a frequency determined by a divider and the LDT bus, the latter of which is 200MHz by default.
Your memory should be fine, however if you want to run in dual channel (more memory bandwidth), you'll need another stick.

So overclocking aside, I really am not benefiting from the 800mhz stuff?
I was thinking I would just buy another Kingston 533 1GB stick to match the one I have if this is the case. (stuffs dirt cheap)

yes, go ahead and buy a matching 1GB stick and you'll be fine.

your FSB is 200 but your mem is rated for 266.

assuming everthing is set to auto, the board may apply a divider to set your mem to 266 mhz.

Plus, his chip has a fairly high multiplier, so if he decides to overclock, he's still got some headroom.

Good call! unfortunately i don't even know what the default speed for AM2 chips are anymore. 939 4600+ = 2.4 ghz with 1M L2.
