Another floppy drive problem

I need to make a floppy for a memory diagnostic but when I go to format the floppy the light turns on and nothing happens, the drive just hangs. Is the drive dead?

If the disk already has memtest on it, you can't format it. You can overwrite the disk with the latest version though. I just did it last night.

If the above is not the case, try a different floppy disk. If you get the same results, I'd say the drive is history.

There's a CD version of memtest86 if you wanna go that route.

It's happened to two disks so far. I'm guessing the drive is toast. Any recommendations for a new one?

Most of the dead fds I've seen are Mitsumis. Have had good luck NEC and Sony (have probably used 30-40 of each). Once had a batch of HP pulls (Alps Elec.) that were all very good.
