I have lotsa flooz burning in lotsa pockets ...I wish they would let you combine accounts or the sites would let you use more than one account. I keep forgetting Outpost takes it. I will have to keep an eye out on some deals there.

I own the Barricade, and if this is the same model, then it is definitely worth getting at this price. Make sure that it is the one with a built in switch though. Otherwise, it is still a good deal, but NOT a steal. :)

have you ever thought about asking the flooz companies to process more than 1 account? seems like a not so unreasonable request (by phone)

Rigor, to be perfectly honest it is not something I have aggressively pursued. I have asked a couple of companies and they said no so I just let it go. I heard one company lets you do it but I never shop there.

I was in Nordstrom and they were ringing up something for me and they couldn't split it up on two credit cards..whereas other stores can do it with their system. Nordstroms could do cash or check and a credit card but not two credit cards.

The flooz thing really hasn't been important enough for me to try. However, if it would greatly influence a deal then I would have to go for it :)

WARNING!!!!
WARNING!!!!
Yes, the FR3004 is a sister to the SMC Barracade... so close that you can use the firmware between the asante and smc interchangably... BUT NOT QUITE!!!

the FR3004LC is the Asante w/ the print server and modem/com port... it costs more than the FR3004. (they also make a FR3004USB or something like that too...)

the SMC at buy.com for $158 - $30 buy.com coupon - $20 rebate + $6 shipping = $114 (+tax if applicable) is a MUCH better deal since you get the print server and modem/com port!!

check out a review:

You may be right PurpleDvd but Im not sure if many people will actually need a 56k modem or hook an ISDN line to the router when they already have the DSL solution. At least to me that problem isnt a big deal. And that modem has to be external too if you want to use the FR3004LC.

Huh?

I don't remember my SMC Barricade's serial port allowing a MODEM to be hooked up to it. Where in the manual does it say you can do that?

Bear in mind that it has been speculated (tho not yet confirmed) at practicallynetworked, that the com port may someday be able to be activated for some sort of fax server. The theory is that the ability exists within the router, it just hasn't been activated via firmware by SMC yet. Apparantly one of the sister models has this ability. Wishful thinking for sure, but something to consider when there's really only a couple bucks difference in price after coupons & rebates.

Btw, would really like to hear from some brave lad (in the appropriate forum of course) who is willing to risk his shiny new router on the attempt. ;)

CounterStryke: the COM port can be used for a 56k modem, like a backup system if your broadband goes down. There's a screen in the admin system for setting up dialup.

PurpleDVD: you're right about the router at Outpost, it's only the 3004, not the 3004LC, which is the equivalent of the SMC router. I have the SMC, but haven't set up the print server yet.
