Two men were fatally stabbed on a crowded Portland, Oregon, commuter train Friday after they confronted a passenger who was "yelling a gamut of anti-Muslim and anti-everything slurs," a Portland police spokesman said.

"It is unclear if he was directing (slurs) at specific people but witnesses told us he may have been targeting two girls described as Muslim, one wearing a hijab," Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson told CNN. "We have not been able to find those girls to verify that."

A suspect was in custody and was at a hospital being treated for injuries, according to Simpson.

"This is at the early stages of the investigation. We do not know if the suspect was drunk, on medication, had mental issues or anything else," Simpson said.

The stabbing occurred on a Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) light-rail train, Portland police said.

Witnesses said one of the victims was stabbed in the neck, CNN affiliate KOIN reported.

Portland police said one man was found suffering from traumatic injuries and first responders attempted to save his life, but he died at the scene. The second victim, also stabbed, died at a hospital, KOIN said.

A third passenger who also tried to intervene with the shouting man was injured, police said.

Plenty of Americans hated Muslims on September 11th, 2001. Has little to do with Trump, and a hell of a lot to do with the polarization in this country. Unstable people will act out on those divisions against the "others".

The media has a HUGE role to play in promoting "Islam is terror" without showing the human side.
In a lot of similar ways you'll scream "Trump is terror" without knowing who, what, where, or why.

Hitler/Goebbels similarly inspired their nation to hate an entire ethno-religious group. Same fundamentals, just on a lesser level with Trump/alt-right/Fox, etc.

"your leader"? Save that crap for someone that voted for him.

New Certainly is possible he actually is not inspired by Trump's rhetoric, but I'd put that as a low chance.

I tried to spell it out in the previous post, but let's get this straight. You geniuses are telling us that, when it comes to hating Muslims, Trump is more important than September 11th, 2001? More important than the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq? More important than 24/7 news cycles blasting the tragedy and body counts for the latest Islamic Terror attack? More important than the social fabric counting death tolls attributed to the "others"?

Trump could go on national TV and declare war on Islam and do less damage than what has / is actually occurring out there! People don't need red meat. They ARE the red meat. Polarization, Tribalism. It's what humans do and the US has encouraged it for over 16 years now.

Portland is still not done Gentrifying out Trump Trash? Californians better step up.

My previous post I called posters out on not knowing the "who, what, where, why" of hatred against Muslims. If you think Trump is a cornerstone of it then you have to be delusional, though I understand that too... he's king "other" to you. As a symbol you generalize onto him all the shit people do wrong. Republicans did that to Obama too. You're just aping it up, beating the war drums against your "other" the way the killer in this story snapped at his "other".

This is tribalism 101. It's human nature and you're neck deep in this filth if you're speaking of your fellow Americans like this. But if you care to solve the problem, and not be part of the problem, you will first need to recognize it for what it is. To understand why the killer hated Muslims. To understand that tribalism is human nature, that we all practice it, that modern communication has overwhelmed our primitive brains and turned partisanship into hyper-drive, that a sort of madness has overtaken the population where we're more concerned with counting the people killed by "others" than the people NOT killed by "others".

After all, can't arrive at a final solution for the "other" unless we treat them all the same. Dehumanize them by focusing on the violence of a few, over the peace and humanity of the majority. Stop and think about the situation, or grab your clubs. Your path is yours to choose.

One word: Conservaterrorist!

Time to wake up and stab all them fuckers if they come at you. Who knows what they might be carrying?

Would you rather be assaulted and killed like over a 1000 Americans have been?

I'm not making this out of my ass, do some fucking research yourself and protect yourself, your family from these fucking terrorists that the media will lie through their teeth about and ignore.

Another potential Trump fanatic commits murder

Trump and some of his followers have plenty of issues, but is disingenuous and dishonest at best to try to blame every demon, bogeyman, etc. on him or his followers using innuendos like in the thread title making you no different than the alt right fake news right wing types that do the same thing.

Just got finished reading this story and was going to post a thread about it, but saw this. Anyway, while anti-muslim ideology really expanded after 9/11, drumpf has thrown kerosene on that ideology and put a torch to it.
dubya on muslims about a week after 9/11
I also want to speak tonight directly to Muslims throughout the world. We respect your faith. It's practiced freely by many millions of Americans and by millions more in countries that America counts as friends. Its teachings are good and peaceful, and those who commit evil in the name of Allah blaspheme the name of Allah. The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself. The enemy of America is not our many Muslim friends. It is not our many Arab friends. Our enemy is a radical network of terrorists and every government that supports them.

drumpf on muslims
"Donald J. Trump is calling for a complete and total shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on."
"I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering."
"I think Islam hates us," Trump told CNN's Anderson Cooper after he was asked whether he thinks Islam is at war with the West. "There's a tremendous hatred. We have to get to the bottom of it. There is an unbelievable hatred of us."

There seems to be a different tact taken from drumpf, he feeds his followers red meat, laced with vitriol and innuendo that goes with the mantra that fox news, brietbart etc trot out on a daily basis.

So yea, while the anti-muslim rhetoric has been going on for a while now, drumpf is doing little to nothing to address the fact that a wide majority of muslims are peaceful and the fringe are the ones doing the horrific acts.

Oh, do tell. Placing blame on those who have spent years inciting violence, and now they get their day, seems reasonable to me.

Peaceful is a simplification. They're humans, and we have a history of bombing, screwing over, or just simply being nationally opposed to a great many people in the... Muslim World. (North Africa, Middle East, etc.) So when polled they might say "Death to America", and other things we would consider dangerous. After all, they're every bit as tribal as we are. It takes an effort to understand those opponents, to not count them as "others".

Anyways, the crux is that those living among us who are trapped in the middle... not an active terrorist or militant harming us... but not feeling welcomed or supported by us either... I think we can prevent them from being pulled to the "other" side. First by not threatening them with hostility... by embracing those who call for non violence and integration. We can empower better... voices... on both sides and help balm the bleeding wound of being "other" to each other.

America might be the last country right now to preach for calming polarization... but it also means we need help the most.

We can agree that "anti-muslim rhetoric" has been going on for a while, a lot longer than Trump. And we can agree he will do little to noting to address it. But be honest, Bush knew how to sing a pretty tune... but his wars were a disaster, his "War on Terror" polarized us against Muslims, he also did little to nothing to help. A few kind words ARE NOTHING compared to the concerted effort to polarize us against Muslims. Let alone the entirely absent effort to counter and diffuse that polarization.

Humans will always attack "others". And that tribalism has only festered and deepened since September 11th. Trump is a symptom of a far greater problem. He is nothing compared to a voting base, and the polarization in this country leading people to see and hate "others". Remember that Americans died trying to stop the killer here... and that's the thing... polarization is reaching a boiling point in America, fueled by a madness people don't even comprehend.

Trump is not the problem. We are. Trump is merely America viewing itself in a mirror. We won't stop being monsters by smashing the mirror. We have to first recognize the root of the problem, its depth, its pervasiveness, its sources. Then we need discussion on how to reunite the country instead of working to tear it apart.

Assuming suicide bomber is Muslim = common sense

Assuming someone yelling anti-islamic slurs is Trump supporter = Don't jump to conclusions/fake news

What you're saying is true but neither can Trump and cohorts be ignored or allowed to continue the dismantling of the country. Yes, many people see the problems you're addressing and too few are stepping up to fix it but this Administration must be dealt with, if not for the radical, fear mongering pronouncements then for their corrupt, treasonous actions. Of course it would be a valuable way to live a life fighting ignorance and prejudice but one of those steps must be delegitimizing and removing these hate speakers in leadership roles. In this post Trump winning his presidential bid world there isn't a choose your battles option. This Administration means to divide and at the moment in time they are at the very least a very stimulating part of the core of these problems. They intend and work toward making us hate each other in the hopes that their opposition will be shut down and they don't much care how that comes about. They're dangerous domestically as well as internationally.

He was saying that Muslims should die," Hudson said. "That they've been killing Christians for years."

The attack happened on a Metropolitan Area Express train as it headed east. A train remained stopped on the tracks at a transit center which was closed while police investigategated.

Autopsies on the victims were being done Saturday. Their names have not been made public. Police say the victims were trying to stop Christian from confronting the girls.

"In the midst of his ranting and raving, some people approached him and appeared to try to intervene with his behavior and some of the people that he was yelling at," police Sgt. Pete Simpson told The Oregonian. "They were attacked viciously."

Christian is locally known as a right-wing extremist and white supremacist, according to the Portland Mercury newspaper. Police have not confirmed the report.

The paper reports Christian showed up to a right-wing "March for Free Speech" event on April 29 with a baseball bat that was quickly confiscated by police. "He ranted how he was a nihilist. He'd soon yelled racial slurs ... and gave the Nazi salute throughout the day," the Portland Mercury says.

I also saw that facebook linked somewhere. Another Trump fanatic killing people in the streets, doing the Lord's good works.

His Facebook Page.

This guy is a strange bird indeed. Pre-election he's a full on Bernie supporter and even posts some pro-standing rock posts.

Post election he starts becoming increasingly radicalized, pro-Trump, and anti-anti fascist. Hanging out with White Power fascists and attending pro-Trump rallies.
A lot of scumbag conservatives jumped aboard the Bernie train and thought it made them progressives but deep down they were always just anti-Hillary disenfranchised Republicans.

This guy is his own brand of nut job. He didn't need Trump or anyone else. Hell he was run out of a proTrump rally as he was an absolute nut bag.

Trump has fanned the flames for sure. This guy was his own torch setting fires everywhere he went.
