Nov. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov was placed into a coma after suffering severe burns when the Ferrari he was driving crashed and burst into flames in Nice on the French Riviera on Nov. 25.

Doctors at Marseille burns hospital La Conception will wait 48 hours before deciding on a diagnosis, said a spokeswoman for the city's hospitals who declined to be identified. Severely burned patients are often placed in an artificially induced coma, the spokeswoman said today by phone. Kerimov's family asked the hospital not to disclose detailed information on his condition.

The 40-year-old businessman, worth $7.1 billion according to Forbes magazine, was speeding and weaving through traffic when he lost control of a black Ferrari Enzo on the Promenade des Anglais, the boulevard that runs along the Nice shoreline as he was speeding, said the policeman in Nice who is heading the investigation into the crash.

....................

Kerimov, who arrived in Nice on a private jet with his friend Tina Kondelaki, a Russian television presenter, was driving a Ferrari loaned to him by a friend, the policeman said.
Wow...

Even a billion dollars can't buy you the knowledge you require to properly drive/handle a car such as the Ferrari Enzo.

Should have stuck to riding in the back of limos Suleiman... RIP... You aren't going to make it.

ouch. he was probably going through mid-life crisis and had to buy a 6-figure car to prove his manlihood. as if being a fricken billionaire wasn't enough. so if he does in fact snap out of his coma and live, his wife & 3 kids will be seeing him likely disfigured from the burns until he gets plastic surgery (which he obviously can afford). just plain stupid.

So is anybody keeping track of how many Enzos are left? There seems to be a half dozen or so destroyed every year.

whoops, missed that part. whenever i see that horizontal line, i always think it's the signature section below (i scan stuff pretty fast). my bad.

either way, his wife & kids are probably pretty pissed at him for driving like a bat out of hell, only to end up crashing. thank goodness he didn't have a passenger or no other car was involved.

If the Russians have a big ass estate tax that takes a bunch of his $, then Putin was probably behind it. Give friend 1% of the take, use kgb magic to put some mini explosive or something in the car that's trigered when the watching ex-kgb dudes press the button as they observe the car go past 120 mph. Russia collects a couple of billion.

And it didn't even cost him anything! Lessons, please!

I wonder how much the Enzo is now worth. And I wonder what the Ferrari enthusiasts will do to him. :D

I was thinking more along the lines of Putin eliminating any potential threat to his power.
