Another dumb RAM question

I want to upgrade from 2 GB to 4 GB in a Vista 64 system. I have two 1 GB sticks in there now.

If I add two more 1 GB sticks, they don't have to be the same brand, do they? As long as they're all DDR2 800?

Or would it be better to instead get 2 x 2 GB sticks (as opposed to 2 x 1 GB sticks of one brand and 2 x 1 GB sticks of another brand)? That shouldn't make a difference, right? EDIT: but then I was thinking about it...if you have two different brands of RAM, what if they both have different memory timings requirements or voltage settings? Sooo does it make more sense to get either the exact same kind, or to just get a 4 GB set?

If it matters, I'm using a Foxconn P35A mobo, and 2 x 1 GB of Corsair RAM. Thanks!

It's not required to have all of your RAM be the same brand. However, as you alluded to, all of your RAM will have to be run at the same speed, timings and voltage.

Ah, that makes sense. I ordered the same kind I originally had, for 4 x 1 GB sticks. Thanks DSF.

It is always best when you have the option to add memory that EXACTLY matches your existing memory.

get it at the same speed, same timings. you don't have to but it just makes sense $$ and performance wise.
