Hi,
I'm new to the forums but seeing the countless people helping others I decided to register and finally post my problem as well.I've probably browsed over 2 dozen sites full of fixes and such for dual cores running on windows xp. I'll start off by saying that I do indeed run Windows xp home, but my 3800+ manchester dual core will run on home edition,I know this for a fact because my friend has the same setup as me and everything works fine for him. And after reading this post http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=28&threadid=1760689
I'm more confident than ever that someone can help me here.I'll just copy and paste what I posted in another forum :x

Here's the problem,I bought my Shuttle SN95G5 V3 with fn95 socket 939 motherboard (nforce3 250 gb chipset) about a year ago and just recently bought a 3800+ manchester dual core from amd upgrading from my AMD 3000+.After many days of frustration I got my BIOS updated from the shuttle website and installed the windows xp home hotfix from windows. But no matter what I do and how much of the latest drivers I download, windows simply refuses to see 2 proccesors. It's a strange problem because when I run cpu-z it detects that everything is fine, but when I go to the taskmanager or run amd power monitor, only 1 processor shows up.I've posted some pics if that can help at all :/

Any ideas on what to do or who I should ask.I can post any more information if it's needed, but I can't even guess anymore what the problem could be.HELP ME PLEASE!!!

edit: http://usera.imagecave.com/redline/devicemanager.JPG

Alright it seems the computer detects the two processors, but I'm not seeing any performance boost in any applications that I use.I remember someone saying that a 3800+ dual core is basically two 3200's working together and since I upgraded from a 3000,I see a slight increase in speed, but that's only because of the single core upgrade.

Alright just to reiterate since that is alot of reading,I updated my BIOS to one that should run dual cores fine with winflash from the shuttle website.I downloaded the drivers off the AMD website for dual cores as well. Also recieved the hotfix from microsoft that is supposedly supposed to fix performance issues along with the regedit.I've done everything but reinstall windows (which is something I REALLY don't want to do),but no matter what I do task affinity and the graphs won't display more than one proccesor. When I go to the taskmngr -> performance -> view -> cpu history, 1 graph per cpu is grayed out.please help me or atleast direct me somewhere to where I can be helped. And sorry If my grammar or typing is mistake ridden,it's been a long few days trying to fix this problem :/

please can anyone even reccomend something to try :/ At first glance this problem seems like all the others, the only difference is I tried all those solutions and none of them worked for me,I'm tempted to just go out and buy windows professional, but my wallet is severely empty right now.

Hmm, well it is recognizing both cores, but you still don't get the second CPU graph in task manager? Do you have ACPI enabled in the bios?

Either do a repair install or a clean install of windows.

I don't know if it works by have you tried looking for new hardware?

Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager > Computer > ACPI Multiprocessor PC. It should say multiprocessor PC. It might only say Single or something.

Right click and try properties, and try updateing drivers that way.

If not, try scan for hardware changes. Might work.

I hope that helps you out, it's likely it's still set on single core processor.

Good Luck!

His screenshot shows ACPI multiproccesor PC, and it shows 2 cpu's in device manager..

I went from a 146 to a 170..... when I rebooted after swapping CPU's, XP detected my Dual core Opty and installed some crap before I could say otherwise. I then applied the AMD x2 drivers, MS Hotfix and regedit. I don't have any issues so maybe a clean install is your "best" solution.
