Another drive configuration question.

No one answered last time, so here's a repost. For my new system, there will be three drives:
Maxtor 40gb 7200rpm
Maxtor 80gb 5400rpm
TDK Velocd

How should I configure them? I heard that only one device on an ide channel can be accessed at one time. So if I move a lot of information back and forth between my two Maxtors, they should be on different channels am I right? But then that would create a slow down if I'm burning from a drive on the same channel as the burner.

1) Maxtor 40gb: First channel MASTER
Maxtor 80gb: Secondary channel SLAVE
TDK Velocd: Secondary channel MASTER

2) Maxtor 40gb: First channel MASTER
Maxtor 80gb: Secondary channel MASTER
TDK Velocd: Secondary channel SLAVE

3) Maxtor 40gb: First channel MASTER
Maxtor 80gb: First channel SLAVE
TDK Velocd: Secondary channel MASTER

4) Maxtor 40gb: First channel MASTER
Maxtor 80gb: Secondary channel MASTER
TDK Velocd: First channel SLAVE

I'm guessing option 1 or 2 right?

Chiwawa626 if the hardrive will slow down cabled with a cdrom drive... then shouldn't I place both harddrives on the primary channel?

What's better here, have both harddrives on the same channel (even though only one drive can be accessed at one time). Or just take the slow down on the second harddrive and connect it to the cdr, that way I can transfer files between drives more quickly.

?

option 3. you can access data from both hd's at the same time perfectly fine. you NEVER want to have a HD bundled with a Cdrom drive IMHO.

I'm saying:
Maxtor 40gb: First channel MASTER
Maxtor 80gb: first channel SLAVE
TDK Velocd: Secondary channel MASTER

MY MISTAKE< I DIDNT SEEE SECONDARY WRITTEN,

OPTION 3!

thanks guys! 😀

Whoops... forgot to add the Toshiba DVD drive in there... guess I'll just stick it in as the slave under the cdr. Or should the DVD drive be master?
