Question Another DNS topic - OpenDNS and content blocking

Recently, I had a customer ask for a recommendation to block his attempts to browse porn. It's been a long while since I've had a request like this, and the last I looked into it I think I recommended OpenDNS. However since then they've been bought out and it looks like a non-free service. Any suggestions for an alternative and preferably free solution?

DNS blocking can only do so much. There are new sites pop out everyday, black lists will never be able to keep up.

If your client has strong enough desire, he can always find a porn site to browse. 😁

Very true, or vpn / ability to manually configure dns servers.

If he has an addiction, then you probably would just turn off the filter to view it anyways. My VPN has a DNS and IP level blocker with options to block malware, ads & trackers, porn, social networks (I love this one!), gambling, fake news & clickbait, other VPNs, and cryptominers. I use OpenDNS for my DNS sever, but don't use it to block porn.

I'm not a fan of the approach, hence I'm entirely out of practice with it. One of my more amusing reasons to disagree with it include that a customer's daughter's browsing habits once raised their parents' eyebrows until they realised that searches for 'orgies' were part of their history homework (Roman history)

in honesty any client asking you to hold there hand, basically this.... id would shoot recommendations but not give any definite solutions, as the customer is the root of the issue, and its very hard to fix a source where you have very little complete control over.

If the customer wants to watch porn, s/he will find a way, or just remove it.
Porn is almost impossible to completely filter, even google ads sometimes miss stuff.
