Another Directivo question

We're looking to get directivo this week, and I called a sat company and they can't give me directv since something about a franchise. So I'd have to go through a different place that doesn't have freeinstall and locals are $6(otherplace was$3) So I dug in the basement and found a directv dish that we never used from something a few years ago. Andy BestBuy has this for $99.

I'm wondering if this dish will work(its a single LNB) since the tivo has 2 tuners. Also wondering if anything else would keep it from working. I can't believe the loops I have to go through to get this and why I can only get directv installed from one provider. This is really a PITA:(

Another option would be to order the directv to a friends house that is not in the franchise area. And than just change the billing address and install it at my place... There any problem with this?

Have you tried calling Directv themselves and not a local sat company? And to answer your question, the dish will work, and the Directivo will function with only one sat connection, but you will lose the ability to record two things at once or watch one while recording another.

they're website says that I have to call pegasus TV. For the dish does that mean if I wanted a 2 room one with tivo I'd need a triple LNB dish?

Just go to best buy and pick one up, then when you activate your account, have them draw from your credit card.

No, dual LNB would be fine. You just need two separate signals coming into the directivo unit. One of those two can be split and run to another receiver.

We got a Samsung DVR for up to 35 hours of recording for about $50.00 this weekend. It's listed on their website for $49.99. When my bf went in, it rang up at $99, but he told them about what it's listed online and they checked it and gave it to him for $49.99. Now, all we pay is $5.00 a month to use it from DirecTV. We love it!

I'm looking into getting a personal video recorder. Is there a website somewhere that shows you all the basics and maybe a faq or 2. I've never had one and I want one.

I have no phoneline and regular cable tv.

Nope, you would have a dual LNB and a multiswitch. Thats what I am running at home for 3 rooms.

I am also thinking about the RCA from best buy....deos anyone know if it has the 30 second skip button like ultimateTV? Works GREAT for commercials.

Are there any out there with no monthly charge or cheaper charges? 12.95 a month for tivo or replay tv seems like a lot.

I got the same unit a few weeks ago, and you can program it for 30 second skip. You just punch a certain sequence into the remote, but I forget exactly what it was...

Excellent choice, I would recommend checking out the ReplayTV Outlet wich has BRAND NEW ReplayTV 5040's for $139.99.

Then you should join AVSForum.com read up on DVArchive and Poopli.com

thanks for the info also just saw tivos refurb for 99 after $50 MIR, gonna readup on tivocommunity and take it from there. but DVarchive looks like a killer app that will seal the deal for me

Assuming the refurb works, that's a $40 savings but I would rather buy new and have no rebate hassles.

DVArchive with WiFi = :) :) :)

We just bought the Microsoft MN-700 802.11g wifi router for $59.99 out the door (no rebates) at our local Circuit City. BB had the same price out the door.
