Another, Different question about Voting:

I want to seperate this question from the one in my other thread, so here goes. I am tired of getting told "you should vote" by people who do vote. This goes for all elections, city, state, and federal. I just don't vote. My question is:

Should people who don't know anything or very little about the candidates they are voting for, still vote?

Many of the people who push me to go vote, just vote for the sake of voting. They don't know anything about the candidates, or the issues. They just vote for someone because they like their ads, or what stories they've heard about them on TV.

I don't because I don't believe in the system, and I don't know much about the candidates. I think it is better for me NOT to vote, because of this.

Why not do a little research to see where they stand on certain subjects. I feel its always better to vote than to not vote. You cant complain about the results if you dont vote 🙂

Thats the blanket statement I knew i'd receive by those who don't understand the subject. So, people under 18 have no right to complain either? Heck, say I voted, and everyone I voted for lost. Thats pretty much the same as not voting. It would be futile.

Thats not what i meant. For those people who could have done something about election results, who dont vote and then complain about it later in the term. Well, maybe things would have been different if all of those non voting voters actually had voted.

But in all seriousness with the internet... these days most politicians campaigning have internet sites that will show where they stand on the hot topics. This includes municipal, city, state, federal. There really is no reason to not know about the candidates. Unless those ppl who dont vote are just not concerned enough(read lazy) to participate.

well, it probably depends on how direct the payment is or might depend on where you are

I've always wished we could have a system where you take a small (yet very simple) quiz about what you are voting on. If you pass the quiz then your vote counts. If you fail the quiz, then your vote doesn't count. I think this would address your concerns.

I realize that would never work in reality, but I wish it could.

its nearly impossible to know everything about every canidate.
take judges for example, i just always vote against the incumbent.
doesnt matter who it is or what they have done, its just what i do.
most of the other canidates (president, governor, senator, representative, state rep and sen) i have some idea of where they stand.

I think name recognition is the biggest factor. Arnold got governer of CA...so i'm sure if a celebrity ran for office here, they would get it.
