This is true.. About 10 years ago my brother and I were up there walking down Telegraph Avenue and we saw this old, bearded, almost homeless-looking guy walking toward us.. he had his shirt open and we could clearly see a lacy pink bra, which he filled out... :Q

there are some very interesting things to read if you have a little time.


a little detective work brings up his live journal containing his last words before he killed himself. Apparently, he'd threatened suicide many times before. But I bet the guy who responded with this feels really bad right now:



If I forbid it, does that mean you'll do it? Because maybe you should. I don't presume to know you, but I do know the kind of people who commit suicide and you're not one of them. Looking over the edge of a building is nothing. Looking at guns is nothing. Talking is nothing. If you're going to do something then DO IT. Stop talking about doing it or wondering what it'd be like if you did... but don't be surprised when you threaten suicide for the 453 time and no one says anything, and people stop caring. The fact of the matter is: you've threatened suicide before and yet, you're still here. It's not a wild assumption to think the next time you threaten to kill yourself will be a false alarm, too.
I think maybe you spend too much time alone. Talking to strangers online doesn't constitute human interaction. Neither does playing Dance Dance Revolution.
I don't know how to "help" you and frankly, right now, I don't want to. You're being a whiney, self-important brat. I shouldn't have to feel guilty everytime you're feeling down. You need to do something. Anything. Just stop f*cking complaining.




Of course, 12 hours later the kid commits suicide. What gets more interesting is the journal of the guy who made that comment-see here and comments to him here. People are coming out of the woodwork to blame this guy for pushing the kid to actually kill himself:

So don't, don't even f*cking try to divorce yourself from this episode by playing the clueless bimbo card, now that he's gone and thrown himself off of a building. You were called on that callous little bluff of yours; and I hope you think about that every day for the rest of your life.

You understand. You're just feeling too guilty to say that you understand.

I hate to say it, but it looks like you blew your New Years resolution big time, sister...... Maybe set your sights a little lower for 2003, huh?

I find this stuff intensly interesting. What makes it fascinating to me is the connection all these "live journal" folks have. Seems like they have a bit of a community, somewhat like AT but on a far more personal level. Of course, when something like this happens its bound to get even more interesting (pardon me for saying that, I know someone's death isnt meant to be entertainment.)

one of my berkeley friends was telling me that Evans Hall is where the unabomber used to teach when he was a professor there. Also, Evans is where all the Berkeley suiciders end up doing it (apparently there's a lot each year). oooo, scarey
