That's nuts. The tech might as well have called her and told her he drove the car, posting the problem and the license number like that.

Thats the kind of stuff I live for....but when I say that, I mean confronting that punk. Its so much fun when your pissed as hell, but you can keep your cool, you just lead them into a trap and destroy them. Then you can really be a b!tch and turn the screws. I would do everything and more that is said in that post.

A few posts down in the original thread (from the "mechanic" who actually drove the car):

ok ok ok, i guess i didnt think of that, you know, customer being a member, doubtful, but possible... well, be it as it may, i will cross that bridge when i get there... however, there are the few customers that bring in their cars and have you do loads of work and diagnosing, just for them to decline the repairs... so it works out in the end, they make me loose money, i drive their car hard!!

Jackass.

This post is EVERYWHERE now! Just look at the number of people that registered just to post thier opinions on the matter! I've never seen anything like it.

yeah, it is crap like this that stops me from buying a brand new car. a friend of mine used to work at a dealership and he used to say when the new cars came off of the truck they would take them for a "test" drive. sometimes this would involve neutral slamming them. he even said they dropped the trans in one of the vehicles before. didn't matter, they just sent it back to the manufacturer as a defective build. sucks, but this crap happens all the time.

Hopefully her or her husband, or friends don't read this board.... Would be a shame if they found out and called the dealer up with written proof...... I know I would try to file a formal complaint and get all I could from a dealer that did something like that to my car.....

LOL!

Hehe, one guy was berating the mech for doing such a thing, another guy jumped him, saying 99% of the posters on that forum would have done the same thing.

His quote, which really sheds light on true blue "Ford" enthusiasts:
being sensible and practical is not part of being a mustang enthusiast

LOL!

man, if i had a job like that i wouldn't want a ford job, but say viper or something the car just demands respect, unless you own the car you should be as gentle as possible, cars are a thing of beauty. well. some are. hope it was worth it, cause he's screwed

Dam. And I was considering buying a Mustang in San Antonio.

Isn't this type of abuse common in valet parking?

At the dealership where i bought my bike, they rag on all the bikes that are brought in for service. I was waiting for my financing to clear, so i went out back with my brother where i parked. I was watching these "techs" pop wheelies, smoke the tires, and they even did stoppies on some of the bikes too. They don't only service crotchrockets...i saw a couple honda street bikes in there, and they also had 4 wheelers that they got up on the back wheels. Pilgrim Motor Sports SUCKS!!!!!

I would call FORD Motor Corporation and make them meet me on the lot of that dealer to let them know what sort of compensation he will be providing or risk losing his rights to sell Ford Automobiles.
Wow, the MOB mentality is really flying over there, and the "SUE THE HELL OUT OF THEM" mentality is NOT one of America's more flattering attributes. Everyone seems to hate this mentality, unless they stand to benefit...

What is the dealer supposed to do? Compensation...for what? NO HARM was done to her car.

In order to sustain some sort of legal action, a claimant MUST SHOW INJURY. What is her injury? He drove her car fast? That isn't injury to anything but her feelings.

The fact that the dealer reportedly fired the mechanic should be enough. Mechanics are LICENSED professionals, which means they are responsible for their own actions, the dealer isn't responsible for what the mechanic does, unless the mechanic did it with the dealer's knowledge and blessing, which I doubt.

I would surely have offered her a couple oil changes or something, but that compensation might be offset by the dealer being besieged by a thousand menacing phone calls from people who ARE NOT PARTY to the incident, and any unjustified and undeserved harm to the dealer's reputation. The woman should have used better judgement and handled the matter personally. If she doesn't have enough intelligence to figure out how to handle this matter without involving three million strangers, she deserves no compensation.

Ford Motor Company knows about this now. I have forwarded the thread to our SVT Department and Dealer Relations. I also used to work a Ford Dealership and have seen this type of additude. I was the SVT & Kenny Bell Service Tech because I didn't treat my customers cars like this.

Yeah, the tech obviously isn't very bright. But isn't a SVT Cobra -designed- to drive 140mph? I could understand getting upset if he took it offroading. But he drove a sports car fast? Oh, the humanity!

Hmmm, what is wrong with the sensible statement?? it just makes sense to me, it's like saying "being sensible and practical is not part of being a fanatic", well DUH.

She has to show damages if she's taking a legal path. She doesn't need to show any damages if she's trying to get compensation from the dealership.

Mechanics, while at work, are representatives of the dealer. What they do on the job is the responsibilty of the dealer. So if the dealer crashes the car into the side of the garage without the dealer's knowledge and blessing, the dealer isn't responsible? I don't think so.

If the mechanic uses his job to get the keys after hours to take the car for a spin, I would suggest the dealer is still culpable.
