About 10 minutes ago I was checking my emails and suddenly pooof and PSU is dead. Fortunately we have 4 PCs so I´m just going to take another from brothers Pentium 200 MHz. That rig was only for net which was why it had cheap PSU. My rig has fortunately much better Fortron:)
solution is simple DONT BUY ANTEC PSU for any rig that is expensive, they are good for 200USD rig and nothing else.

I have read a lot of people's posts against Antec, but I have used many of them over the years (and still using them), in all kinds of rigs, and I have yet to see one fail.

Isn't that how you are supposed to keep the PSU cool?

Very funny. ha ha ha

Rommel44,

Antec have a very good customer support.
Go to their web site and click on support and online support and send them a message and explain exactly what happened. See what they say.

Unfortunately that PSU is almost 3 years old so its out of warranty. Good news is that everything else is fine so its not disaster. I´ve just ordered new PSU for 30 euro - that rig is pretty antient 1.1GHz AMD, 256MB RAM, TNT2 so i´m not going to spend lots of money on that - its only for net, some photos etc. nothig important.

Register over at http://www.badcaps.net/ so you can view attachments and read about
PSUs in thier forum. Enhance is the best of the inexpensive PSUs ;)

Sell your Antec over there, as is or for repair. trodas, a fellow Czech, would re-cap it.

*looks at $1200+ rig*
*looks at 550W Antec TPII*

hmmm......

Runs fine though, and it seems that generally the ones that die are at least a year or two old so I have some time. I hope anyway *crosses fingers*

I've never had an Antec PSU die on me, and the last one I bought (NeoHE) is one awesome power supply.

IIRC the NeoHE is made by seasonic so it is bound to be really good. I'm like you though, have had several antecs and none have died (in fact there are some 4+ year old ones still working right now). But now that I know the smartpower and truepower lines have the cheapo caps in them I'm not gonna get one of those until they clean up their act.

Although the newer truepower trio line looks to be good so that might be an option.

Thanks I found Fortrom 300W for only 900CZK/30EUR so I´ve already ordered it. In my case caps were OK it was shorted. btw it wasnt power surge - I have really good surge protection from Belkin.

The quality of Antec PSUs really depends on who made them.

Antec used to get a lot of PSUs from CWT (Channel well technology), and these weren't particularly reliable. CWT is well known outside of the US as a low-to-mid-range brand (certainly not a bottom feeder like Q-tec or Deer).

Recently, Antec have changed their supplier - and now use quite a lot of Seasonic PSUs. These seem to be better, and Seasonic has a good reputation - but Antec's models are still relatively young.

Last I heard Antec was using the same caps they use in the other Antec lines in the HE. Which would explain why they are able to sell their unit cheaper then Seasonic themselves.

Well its my first bad PSU in 13 years - simply sooner or later something bad will happen. But its easier/cheaper to replace PSU than CPU:)

I have two Maxtor's working great for years now,you guys are so paranoid,I did have a dvd burner die yesterday,I won't meantion the name since it is a well known brand, hey it happens, in my case my first DVD burner that died and not very old,and yes I'm the buying same brand again.

Hardware will die or go faulty sooner or later, not many people can say they never had a hardware failure over the years.

That is true.
However, statistics are interesting too. ......

What really matters is how a company addresses a problem. Do they make you jump through hoops and make you wait and make you sorry you ever bought their product, or do they do an excellent job in addressing your issue and resolving it?

Right above this post, there is a post about someone saying they have a great Antec PSU. Thanks for the recommendation, I was planning to get one for a very high end system.

How's Seasonic's support? They make great PSUs, not sure about their support though.

Seasonic support...If you ever need it...Is fantastic.

Corsair has two PSUs based on the new M12. Both reviewed very well.
There is a M12 thread near the top in the C&C Forum, with review links.
