Another Day, Another Bomb Threat

Is this happening in anyone else's community?

Where I teach, we have bomb threats almost every day. Some anonymous creep calls up and claims there is a bomb at a pulbic school. The school is never named, so every school must evacuate and check for a bomb.

Of course, this throws quite a monkey wrench into the day's schedule. One teacher complained that we don't get to teach any more... all we do is give tests and lead evactuations. She's right, at least in part.

Why can't they track down the caller?

 
When I was in 8th grade, and my brother in HS, they had a whole string of bomb threats. But they actually did manage to track down the caller from a local Dunkin Donuts.. I guess the genius called from the same place at the same time. So they just waited a few days at the location until the kid called again, and nabbed him.

Well, this has been going on for over two years. I think it has been several different perpetrators... it tends to happen a lot around finals and other testing events. 😛

It has been at least once a week since the year started, and some weeks it has been as many as 3 times.

There are "peace protesters" making prank calls to parents of men and women in uniform, telling them that their son or daughter has been killed.

How sick is that?

What if the one time they ignore the threat there IS a bomb and kids get killed?

That is the thing that concerns me.

I do live in an area that is connected to CentCom and the whole Al Arian debacle so there is always the fear that maybe, just maybe... someone is trying to get us to stop taking threats seriously.

Either way, it has gotten WAY out of control. As a parent AND a teacher, I can tell you this has been happening regularly for a long time... and something needs to change.

 
My 10th grade year at JCIB we had about 20 bomb threats in just a few weeks. You could not get anything done in class and the teachers were unable to catch the perp. Finally they caught him and they stopped. I have a feeling that since you are dealing with multiple people over a long time span, that it will be unable to stop them unless you can downplay each event.

If someones going to blow up a school they wont warn you ahead of time, there just going to do it. Threats are just that, empty threats.

You know that & I know that. However, could you ever imagine what would happen if someone really said "wrong number" and a bomb did go off?? The lawsuits would be out of control.

Hopefully, they catch these individuals who are involved. It seems like a real pain.
