After months of research, I've decided on the following components. Comments are welcome, but please, I'm fragile, be gentle 😉.

Thunderbird 1.4 GHz
Iwill KK266-R
512 MB Crucial RAM
Leadtek Geforce3
2x IBM Deskstar 60GXP (I do DV editing)
Samsung 900NF
Toshiba SD-M1502 16x DVD
Plextor 16/10/40
Hercules GTXP
Cambridge DTT3500
250 MB internal Zip

Antec SX1030B
Enermax EG465P-VE(FC)
4x Silencer Fans
Taisol CGK760092 w/Sunon fan

Now, I know some people are going to comment right away on the speaker selection. I considered the Klipsch 4.1s, but this setup is for a dorm room, so frankly all the extra power is not that important to me, and I am more concerned about the versatility of the connections.

Excellent choices all around. But someone is going to recommend the BA4800 speakers over the DTT3500's, so I mitght as well be first. Second the 16X Plextor is good, but I would go for the 20X Ricoh available at mwave.com for $175 right now, they're about the same price anyway. The Visontek and Elsa GeForce3's are a bit cheaper if you dont care about brand, they all bench the same. Very good cooling/case/power choices, well thought out.

HEY! I'm in the same boat as you, so I'll pass on the critiques that ppl gave me about my system which is practically the same as yours.

The Toshiba 16x DVD does not do DAE well! Get either the AOPEN slot at newegg (it seems like your parts are coming from them) or go elsewhere and buy the Pioneer 106s Slot Load. Both are 16x DVD and are much better and cooler. Both can be had for about 75 bucks. Look on pricewatch for the Pioneer.

I would go with the Boston Acoustics 4800, because thats what everyone is telling me plus it saves you some money and can be had for about 130 shipped.

Those are all I can think of, when ppl were making suggestions on my system.

Do the BA4800s have the kind of connectivity options that the DTT3500s do? I want to be able to hookup my PS2 and my DVD player, among other things.

Yeah, unless you have a reason, I would stay away from the 250 zip. Most places have 100 zips built into their computers, including most colleges and libraries.

No need for the 250mb zip, no mass adoption like the 100mb. In addition, you might want to forget about it altogether, takes up an ide slot and isn't of much use. Mine almost never gets used. At college I just ftp stuff back and forth no need to carry anything around.

I have the SX1030b case and it's a great case, but I was at the PCExpo the other day, and the Lian Li cases, although much more expensive are drop dead gorgeous and much quieter. Just another view...
