Another Classically styled aluminum case available - NZXT Adamas

Here's the Newegg link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811146031 - two hundred bucks but built like an Abrams' tank. NZXT claims it can support over 300 pounds!

Here's the mfr's Adamas page: http://www.nzxt.com/products/adamas/

My first take: Another case like the Silverstone Temjin 7 - very sturdy w/good looks but almost no casitude. Has only two of my "Casitude Criteria": 1- it's not butt ugly, 2- 120mm fans f/r. No HDD isolation (they put some rubber strips in there but they're unlikely to be effective), no indirect venting at front, no toolless features for ease of build out. I'd buy a Lian Li and save half - and I don't usually recommend L-L for the same reasons that the Adamas fails. Looks like a little plagiarism too - they stole the polished, beveled edges from the Temjin 4.

Enjoy!

Yeah.... I don't hate it, the front is a little iffy looking but not bad. But that $200 price tag for basically zero in the convienience and function department, along with it's so-so looks makes it DOA in my opinion.

Yep I agree $200 is a little too much for this case IMO. Considering you can get a stacker for that price and still have some left over. As for your criteria I agree with some of them, but I just can't stand tooless cases. I hate plastic and if you can't turn a screw driver you shouldn't be building a computer in the first place. Just my thoughts on the case.

Most toolless systems give you the option to use or not. No options on the non-toolless boxes.

Heh!

Turn 'em upside down and they all look the same... 🙂

"Classically styled aluminum cases" are about as exciting as brushing your teeth!

When will this all stop?!?!?

It's a decent case, that's all. $200 case? Not even close. "It's aluminum, so we'll price it like LianLi" is how they came up this price.

They don't have the brand recognition that LianLi does...and I happen to think most of LL's cases are a bit overpriced as well.

That said, I think it's a decent case. If it had no side fans/vents I would say it's a "OK" case. The ridges on the top prevent you from putting anything on there like a digicam base, webcam, etc.

I have never been a fan of side panels with fans or vents in them as it disrupts the front-->back airflow that all good cases have. Air blowing in from the sides (especially the amount of air from TWO 120mm fans basically is just going to push air OUT from the from and rear fans. Obviously totally screwing up airflow.

I wouldn't buy this case at all.

I guess that is true. As long as I can take the plasitc pieces off and still have it functional I guess I don't have a problem with it.

Its a decent case quality built wise. Looks pretty nice too although nothing to rave about. Just good clean look to it. Has good cooling with four 120mm fans. Overpriced though IMO.

MikeD - all the metal is at least twice as thick on the Adamas 0 and most panels are extrusions rather than sheet - even the drive bay stanchions are thick extrusions.

Hey! The more you look at that thing, the more interesting it becomes -- kinda like Brookers...

I kind of like it, I think, but they should have called it an Abrams, not Adamas! 🙂

How much does that tank weight? I don't see it listed anywhere.

*edit*

Oh, duh! Found it! 20 lb. empty -- same as a 'Classically styled steel case'...

All the metal pieces are extrusions? I guess I missed that. That WOULD make the thing built like a tank. My old Antec 10XX cases are all stamped steel panels and they've lasted forever. This case could conceivably last a really long time.

Hmm. Too bad about the side panel fans though.

The only thing that appears 'bad' with this case is the gap between the end of the motherboard and the hard disk is rather non existing. Bleh. Can't anyone make a 'perfect' case.
