Another choice nominee by the Bush Administration.

In his speeches and writings on his Web site and elsewhere, Thacker has described homosexuality as a ?deathstyle? rather than a lifestyle and asserted that ?Christ can rescue the homosexual.?
:disgust:

Earlier versions located by The Washington Post that referred to the ?gay plague,? for instance, were changed as of yesterday to ?plague.?
Changing the past to suit ones agenda, where have I heard that before...

Aside from the harshly anti-gay tone of Thacker?s rhetoric, Schmid said, his major objection to Thacker is his aggressive lobbying for abstinence-until-marriage education.
:disgust: again!

I hope this gets brought up in 2004, along with all this administration's other ultra-conservative and war criminal appointments...

Meanwhile Assistant Commerce Secretary Nancy Victory took bribes from wireless companies (search for her name on CNN) and Bush nominee for Treasury Secretary John Snow is a drunk driver who didn't pay his child support.

Looks like the Bush administration is trying hard to challenge Clinton's for the "most corrupt administration" title :|

[ ed ] or would it be "morally bankrupt"? Or "character-challenged"? They have a ways to go to match Clinton's but are really making an effort to sink to that level.

There are 35 members on the comission. You are saying not one of them can believe that AIDS is a gay plague?
BTW, I am an agnostic, and I think this guy probably got AIDS from a man lover and feels guilty now. But so what. One extra perspective is not going to hurt. If you want just one perspective, then why have 35 member panel?

Wow, that is the worst artical I have ever read. Talk about biased. If the media wants to give opinions, they just interview people that share opinions with them. This guy may well be an idiot, but it's hard to tell from all the trash talking. I would like to hear his words.

Bush surrounds himself with quality people.

And what's the problem about having Adolph Hitler on a panel advising you about Jewish welfare.

It was in 1984.

Exactly.

Every day, it seems more and more like the darkest aspects of the book are becoming reality. I can easily imagine the Bushes, Ashcroft, and few other individuals flipping through a copy of it, pointing to a line and saying "hey, that's a great idea!"

You know, Bush has a DUI, and Cheny has two, so why should anyone hold that against him? Sounds like he'll fit right in.

That fits into the trend, the other two as far as I recall
The head of women doctors or something, says that the best way for women to help with their monthly thing is to say a prayer
The head of some ecological team or something, well he doesnt belive there is anything such as an ecosystem

Man, that is soooooooo true. I would like to know who thought this was a good idea?

What's your problem? His views fall in line with the rest of the White House, and most of the right wing.

Remember the thread Fausto made a few weeks ago about the successful test of the first AIDS vaccine?

Like it or not, gay plague is an accurate description of the AIDS in America. AIDS stats show that about 90% of the people with AIDS are gay. This is a truthfull, but politically incorrect statement. Given the the recent rolling stones article, about gay people wanting to catch aids, it is even more true.

He also appears to beleive that gay people can change, I do not have a problem with him beleiving that. But I also do not agree with everything he has said in the article as well.

I am sure the flames will be rolling in any second now.

Incorrect

Of new infections among men in the United States, CDC estimates that approximately 60 percent of men were infected through homosexual sex, 25 percent through injection drug use, and 15 percent through heterosexual sex. Of newly infected men, approximately 50 percent are black, 30 percent are white, 20 percent are Hispanic, and a small percentage are members of other racial/ethnic groups.

I don't think flames are needed, you are doing fine all by yourself.

My 90% number was off, but go ahead and read the full report. Gays make up about 60% of the AIDS infections. For 2-5% of the population to still have 60% of the infections, it is still very much a gay lifestyle problem. This disease is caused by lack of personal responsability(gay, hetero or hetero), as very people are accidently infected.
