OK.....building a computer to function as a point-of-sale unit primarily, but also will web browse, play "light" games (puzzle, card, etc.---stuff wife likes), YouTube stuff, light streaming, etc. No real gaming at all. Trying to do it as cheaply as possible.....already have 8GB of Samsung DDR3-1333 memory, a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT hd, Samsung 22X DVD-RW optical drive and an Antec VP 450 ps...or an Antec Neo Eco 620 ps.

Going to be using MicroCenter for sourcing cpu and motherboard---can't pass up the prices.

So, choices essentially boil down to the $99 combo specials-----seen here at the bottom of the page: http://www.microcenter.com/specials/promotions/AMDbundlePROMO.html

An AMD FX 4100 + free motherboard or Phenom II X6 1045T + free motherboard. The motherboard choices are two----a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P or an Asus M5A78L-M LX PLUS.

I'm leaning towards the Gigabyte simply because of the DVI output, but want input as to which of those bottom-of-the-barrel boards would be "better".

I may consider moving the budget up to $150, but at that point, an Intel i3 2100 comes into play. MicroCenter's price for the i3 2100 is $89 and three H61 motherboards MC has run around $55.

Suggestions for direction? Buying on Friday.

Thanks!

For a point of sale and light web browsing machine, the performance difference honestly doesn't matter. An Intel solution based around a G620 and H61 board will come in around $120 and use less power, but I dunno if it is worth it in this scenario.

Oh yeah, I'd take the Gigabyte board as well.

The free mobo with the amd CPU is hard to beat.

But for light web browsing I'd go with the gxxx series Intel CPU with a h61 mobo

Thinking outside the box, what I'd do is:

1. Get the Phenom II X6 1045T deal with the Gigabyte board.
2. Try to trade for, or sell the CPU for enough money to buy, an Athlon II x2 or x3 and a small SSD cache drive ($50AR).
