So I was trying to watch 'Tears of the sun,' to no acoustic avail.....

I just couldn't get the reciever to accept a digital signal. The DVD player SAID DTS and DD whenever I chose it using the in-play options, but alas no DD, NO DTS.

Basically I had to watch a PCM Version of "Tears of the Sun' .

Good movie I thought.

Damn reciever.

So I finally thought about the DVD player ...AFTER THE MOVIE. It my parents so I really haven't had a chance to mess with it. TO make a long story short, I looked it up and found that the DVD player had an fing menu.:| .....Worst off, i had to have the drive EMTY for it to be accessible:| :|

Damn thing was set to PCM and NOT Bistream. DTS was also off, so 'adaptation' another rental for tommorow would have been in trouble too....

Anyways, there was no pint in watchign the movie again, so I just went to the good parts;) :

[AOL Commercial]"WOW!"[/AOL Commercial]

IT was like night and day. I had the volume (Onkyo sr600) up to 50 and it was pretty loud, but in DD the amps kicked in and at 60 it was lound as hell BUT CLEAR AS A WHISTLE. I actually got close to 70 but my ears were buzzing.....

Then again, I am proud of my reciever. Watchign the movie in DDPLII was very enjoyable. DD was sooooo much better, but I was still impressed, although alittle peved at the thought of a faulty reciever.

Regarding my Sub: WHERE THE HELL DID THAT COME FROM!

For some reason, although it had cleared up in the last few days it had cleared up and was awesome, but a the highest setting, it always falterd. It DEFINTIELY must have been something i nthe basement, because I was about 9-11ft away fro mthe sucker, it it was PUMPING OUT SO MUCH BASS THAT I HAD TO TURN IT DOWN TO UNHEARD levels. And the bass was soooo clean. It was soo cool.

have you guys seen the Charlie's Angel's Trailer.....with that pink song?

I WAS WATCHING THAT AT 65+ AND IT WAS INSANE. NO DISTORTION. NO FUZZINESS. SOOOO MUCH NICE BASS.

WOW.......oh yeah., for some odd reason my AIWA center channel was awesome, and the POS techinics rears were really good too....

Of course my mirages...god help me for mentioning htem again...were ever so fantastic!

Damn...feels good to get that off my chest.

I am NOT an audiophile because I have other things to do.

Give me a break...I've been using this reciever with my pc for months now...in the middle of cleaning the house I decided to hook it up upstairs. I was so tired that I overlooked something.....on a dvd player htat I was pretty much using for the first time.

I think I pressed play on it a month ago....

im not an audiophool either, but tubes are fun stuff.

you can do more than 40w, the sky is the limit really, esp if you go with OTL. if you use a trafo, the size of the iron is the main bottleneck.. but even then you can do 200w+ piece of cake.. i doubt theres any consumer amps like that though... but i'm not a consumer ;)

Sounds nice. Unfortunaterly that is beyond even my dreams at the moment.

What exactly would be the advantage of tube-amps if the source material is digital?

Seems like a waste there unless you're using something analog as a LP or on the other end maybe SACD's and DVD-audio, which however, are digital...

As for future upgrades, maybe at the end of this summer I will get new floorstnaders.

Most likely something better htan my Mirage FRx-5's and move the Mirage's to the back. I need a center too.

One question I did have was about using let's say a 200watt/ch amp and 150/watt rated speakers.

Now mirage's are very nice for the price, so I know they can take a load and are pretty efficient(92dB), but where do I draw the line...?

How much current is too much? How would I know how high to turn up the volume without damaging them?

This is just for future reference.

They did... Jerry Cantrell wrote it about his dad who was in Vietnam.

YOu might want to check these groups...quite a few good songs between them...

---stabbing westward-----
( tons of good tunes..."shame" is good, especially in acoustic.... "Save Yourself" is also great..they are sort of rythmic though)

------Sensefield-------
(a lot of their songs are kinda of mellow though...some are good though)
