I am keeping my maxima til this sumer when the Scion C comes out. I can get about $150-250 dealer trade in from it. It has 183K miles. Runs rough but has never broken down or stalled. Starts on first try of ignition every time to. Should I just donate this car or what? Any suggestions?

Are you sure its only worth $150-$200? A running car will fetch at least $500 usually if its not a complete pile. What year is it? What's the condition like besides running a little rough?

1992 Maxima. The one good thing about it is the tires. It has goodyears sport tires that I paid over $500 for that have less than 8,000 miles. I think it needs new motor mounts. When it idles in drive it shakes a little but stops if you put in in neutral.

With some effort you can get more than that. put it in the paper and see if you can score $500 for it.

It was driven hard, wasn't it?

There is no reason you couldn't get $500 or better for it. Hell, parts alone are worth that.

No it has not been driven hard, at least not for the last 3 years when we bought it from my wifes mom. Heh the only reason I do not want to sell to private party is that I would goto the DMV to make sure the car was signed over and I dread going to the motor vehicle department hehe.

Poor old V6. I accelerate slowly in it but sometimes I step on the pedal and the thing still flies. Feel like i am in a rocket compared to my 2003 Civic EX.

I wonder - if the motor is still good and it just needs new motor mounts you could look into getting that fixed and get well over a thousand bucks if the rest of it is ok.

Any car ~9 years old or older with such high miles is worth next to nothing as a trade, even if it's still in very nice shape. It's best from a money standpoint to sell cars like that privately, but sometimes it's not worth the hassle.

If its body is in decent shape and everything else works I'd be surprised if he couldn't get $1500 for it if it's in good running order. If the motor mounts are the only problem I don't know how much they'd cost to get repaired... But you're right - as a trade in, even working, he'd get almost nothing.

I donated my 91' Maxima, but it's just because I liked the charity & didn't want to jack with selling a car.

With inexpensive cars like ours everyone & their brother crawls out of the woodwork asking you to finance it for them:( (wtf, finance a $500-1,000 car?)

Put it in the local paper with a cash only note @ the bottom of the ad.

It's fuggin sad that a stranger would ask a person in the paper to finance a car, but indeed I've heard of it elsewhere too

Yeah it happened to me. I was selling $1500 car that I didn't need anymore and a dude asked me if he could make payments on it. I told him that he could but he wouldn't get the car until I got the full $1500 from him - he bitched at me and said I wasn't being fair

Haha, lay-away! The sort of person who'd ask a stranger for a loan is just the sort of person who absolutely would not honour it!
