Another car research question

MY truck's lease ends next March. I am REALLY glad I decided to lease it instead of buying. The market has tanked so much on the value of trucks. Keeping it would be insane.
I no longer use it for it's intended purpose and have no desire to get another truck (large or small) at the moment.

I want a 4 door car with some power behind it. I'm not interested in an econo-box. No interest at all. By the time I get a new vehicle we will have a baby, thus my need for a 4-door.
Currently, the wife drives an '08 TL-S. I would love to get a 2-dr, but I think a 4-dr would be more practical.
I have been looking REAL hard at a g8 GT as a replacement, but the the viability of the G8 is in question and there hasn't been anything definite on an '10 model.
The new SHO could also be an option as well.
I would like the keep the price in the mid 30k range. I also wouldn't have any qualms about looking into a used model that's been treated well and has a warranty behind it.

Any ideas?

Even if the concern is that GM will axe Pontiac, the Camaro shares most of its parts with a G8. And of course, it shares parts with the Corvette. Even if GM stops the G8's production, getting service on it should be easy.

the G8 is phenomenal... GM will not cancel support for the G8, not to mention if they do close Pontiac, you now have a future collectible on your hands.

If the Ford Fusion SVT is still on schedule to be released near the end of this year, that would be a good choice. It's supposed to have 340 HP.

Odd. What would be the point between a Fuzion SVT and a SHO? Aren't they one in the same?

Almost. The Fusion is a bit smaller, but they both use the same 3.5L V6 Eco-boost, and both have AWD. The Fusion might have better performance since it weighs less. Perhaps the handling is different too.

You could get a lightly used G8 GT, and enjoy a lower payment and more $$ for (savings, vacations, college for kids, etc). Viability is not an issue, GM V8s will be supported for as long as you want, with accessory parts pretty generic as well.

YA, the prices on the used ones are really great. By the time I am ready to make a move on something, there should be more '09's to pick (can't stand the '08 red center console gauges... ugly as sin!!).

I'm all for GMC getting the axe. GMC doesn't have one unique vehicle. They are all rebadges.
Pontiac needs to stay.
Chevy needs to be the meat and potatoes. Pontiac is the performance devision, Caddy would be the luxury devision and instead of keeping Buick, they need to keep Saturn as the young hip brand.

G8 GT is a great choice but lacks a lot of the luxury features your wifes TL has.

A compromise would be getting the Hyundai Genesis.

Another option, especially used - Lincoln MKS. It will be getting the Ecoboost 3.5L from the Taurus SHO months/years before the SHO goes into production.


The WRX, MS3, STI, EVO - all do not qualify as family friendly vehicles. The backseat of the MBZ C300 is very tight, the 335i backseat is not much better, the G35's backseat is a little better but a small trunk - especially considering the room a stroller, diaper bag and other stuff take up.

In all honesty, I'm not really gunning for lots of features (hell, I'm driving a Tundra right now.)
The Genesis is a contender, but it's an ugly one.
I looked at a 335i today just for fun, and I wish it was larger on the interior. I'm a tall guy and anyone sitting behind me is going to have a crapmped ride. Fun car to drive tho!!
