Another boot-up question

I was getting a \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file missing error when I boot up my computer.

I was not able to change the registry hives using the method outlined on the MS website because the XP-CD did not allow me to boot.

So, I made a Bart PE bootup cd and got into the command prompt.

For step 2 on the website (to access the retore points) I tried getting into the "System Volume Information folder" through the command prompt but it does not show me any files. I am sure my system restore feature was on when my computer was working. Are these files hidden even in the command prompt?

Is there any way I can access these system restore files or am I screwed. Or is there any way I can at least copy my data files after getting into PE (it does not recognize my usb flash drive)

Thanks in advance...

If it's a desktop system and you've got another desktop system that reads NTFS too, then one option would be to put the affected drive into the healthy system as a second drive, and rescue data that way. You'd need to take ownership of your old profile directory within \Documents and Settings to get past the Access Denied message.

They do have the hidden attribute set, did you try doing a dir /ah in that directory?
