Another Blu-ray recommendation needed

I did some research and narrowed it down to one of two models:

Sony BDP-S1100 - $75 regular
Sony BDP-S3100 - $120 regular
Amazon S1100

Then I came here and did some searching of the forums, and now I'm just confused. Internal memory? BD live?

For a very low key person who doesn't use Netflix or any online streaming for TV, does all his browsing on his desktop, and just wants the bare basics, is there any reason I should pay an extra $45 for the S3100 over the S1100?

The only reason I can think of to get the S3100 is for the wi-fi and even then, I'd only use it for software updates. Anything that I'm missing that might be important?

Willing to look at other model recommendations -- haven't heard the best things about Samsung and Philips though.

P.S. I used to have a PS3, but sold it because I used it once or twice a year. The basic Blu-ray functionality is the only thing missed.

i have the s5100 and it's an awesome player.

i'm really not sure what you are asking for in this thread. that link you linked to shows you exactly what is different between the models you are interested in, so i'm not sure what more you want us to advise you on.

Ya, the link is somewhat marketing material and I don't really get most of the stuff on it. So, I was hoping someone in the know could let me know if any pops out from that ad, or if you have any other info that's important.

Think I may lean towards the 3100 when it's on sale. The 5100 was on sale for $120 up until yesterday.

You just want something of good quality. The more expensive players are usually giving you features like wifi, smarttv/apps, etc. If you don't need these things, save your money. Don't get something crappy, but don't throw money away, either.

I am on my second Panasonic and like it very much. I also just bought a refurbished Samsung on slickdeals and it is playing very well, too.

Here is a link to a nice LG player at half the price of your Sony:

Funny, I was just looking at the LG BDP330 and was a bit interested. The 220 model looks fine to and I've had a great history with LG DVD drives in the past. I don't see it available at the popular local stores though, so I'll have to see if I can find it.

Thanks for the suggestion!

i hate sony since it wont even play some of our home made movies DVD.
with the ps3, it wont even play PAL disc.
after some research, im finally settling on this Sharp Aquos BD-AMS20U. it is an old model that plays all the discs in the world and even MKV
