A great video that makes the facts in this complex case more cohesive and digestible for a busy general public.

Cosplay shooting update: Surveillance footage show moments before cops shoot Darrien Hunt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqofq3L07os

Thanks that does help to understand it.

So he was shot first by the police car and then ran. The video from that gas station should pretty much put this to rest then.

If he indeed did attempt to strike the officers then I can understand why shooting a fleeing man with a sword would be considered justified. However if that is indeed not what happened then these cops should be doing life in jail!

I think we need to start teaching how-to-interact-with-the-police etiquette in school. If he would have immediately dropped the sword then none of this would have happened. Obey the officers, drop all weapons, hands visible, clearly describe your situation, and talk calmly. No one was ever killed following those rules (well at least in the last 50 years or so.)

Is that right?

When was this kid supposed to calmly tell the officer what was going on?

I know of no other profession that exhibits the sheer arrogance and condescension as to suggest that people should be required to take classes on how to show proper deference and mindless obedience to members of that profession. How is this ever applicable to people who don't practice tyranny?

And LOTS of people have been killed, maimed, beaten, falsely charged, intimidated, harassed, threatened, etc following these exact rules. Saying that "no one was ever killed following these rules" makes you sound like you're a lying asshole. Maybe you weren't lying and you were merely exaggerating. A lot. A whole fucking lot.

So I just re-read your post and have found a small glimmer of hope. Perhaps you were being sarcastic and it flew right over my head. If so, then bravo. If not then get bent asshole.

more lies from the police

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An attorney representing a Utah city and two of its officers says a young man killed by police while wielding a samurai sword was not shot because of his skin color, but because of his reckless actions.
Lawyer Heather White said Wednesday at a news conference that the two Saratoga Springs officers acted appropriately to defend themselves and to prevent 22-year-old Darrien Hunt from harming others at a nearby bustling shopping center.
Last month, Hunt's family filed a civil rights lawsuit against the officers and the city. It contends that Hunt wasn't a threat and was fatally shot on Sept. 10, 2014, after he tripped while running from two Saratoga Springs officers.

I know this story is now long since forgotten, but thought it deserved a little update. According to a recent Facebook post by Susan Hunt, Darrien's mom, police investigators have conveniently lost the most relevant surveillance footage evidence that was in their custody.

DARRIEN HUNT MURDER INVESTIGATION ARGUMENTS

ISSUE #5 – Where’s the Surveillance Video?? Anything substantiating what the police allegedly said happened that day, mysteriously vanished. Obviously, if there was footage proving their claims – then it would have been exposed to the public immediately!

1. Cyprus Credit Union exterior camera footage is missing. The day of Darrien’s murder there was what appeared to be a camera mounted on the northeast corner of the building which would have caught the initial altercation between the officers and Darrien, yet within 3 days the camera disappeared. It was no longer mounted on the exterior wall of Cyprus Credit Union and the space was patched up beautifully as if there was never anything there. Oddly enough, it reappeared two months later after the initial investigation had been completed by Utah County Attorney’s Office. There should be multiple camera angles from the bank; however we only received footage from ONE ATM camera from the police that recorded a different area. Management from Cyprus Credit Union stated that they turned over ALL camera footage to the police; but also stated they don’t have many surveillance cameras due to being such a small branch. Either way, (if that is true), and they turned over ALL of the cameras to the police, that would imply more than ONE camera and ANY BANK would have, at least, ONE exterior camera for security. Panda Express – for example - has 6 cameras that we know of, so it seems absurd that the police would expect us to believe there was only ONE video turned over to them from Cyprus Credit Union. If the footage proves Darrien swung the sword and attacked the officers then why remove the camera? Where is ALL the videotape? (See pic of CCU 9/10/14 – taken during the investigation, pic taken 1/10/15, video surveillance shot from ATM)

2. We are not the only ones that recognize that there is other video footage from Cyprus Credit Union that the police have in their possession. We have been contacted by multiple citizens stating that they are aware of footage from the bank that has never been released to us or the media. We were informed by one particular individual that “police investigators DO still have in their possession exterior security footage from the Cyprus Credit Union.” Also stated that they, “Asked on Tuesday whether the drive-through forecourt where Hunt and the officers had their first encounter was covered by surveillance cameras, Jessica Taylor, a spokeswoman for Cyprus, said in an email: “Yes. The credit union has external security cameras on our branch in Saratoga Springs.”… “We provided footage from our outdoor camera to the authorities for the times requested,” said Taylor. “Cyprus is cooperating with all requests from the authorities.” How is it then that all we received from Utah County Attorney’s Office was a single view from the ATM? We also received this message as well “according to the official Utah County Attorney's summary report, "surveillance recordings were taken from the Top Stop (Chevron gas station), Panda Express, and Cyprus Credit Union." Yet to date, only the Top Stop and Panda Express videos were made publicly available. I believe the credit union video potentially could be a crucial piece of missing evidence. Otherwise the only available eyewitness photo with police and your nephew has him calm and smiling.” (see attached statement posts)

3. In the Wal-Mart videos we obtained, you cannot see any footage regarding the incident between Darrien and the officers that morning. It’s been argued by the police that Darrien was running towards a crowd of people, however you can clearly see in the Panda Express video of him running for his life, and in the Wal-Mart video surveillance that there was not a crowd of people anywhere to be seen! (See attached video surveillance pics) Also, Included with the pictures are insets of other Wal-Mart angles that surprisingly are much more clear taken at the same time. We simply find it interesting that the only camera angles that would show anything are so out of focus.

4. There are 2 additional cameras on the West side of Panda Express that, at least one of them would have captured the initial stop and altercation between Darrien and the officers. This would have potentially shown shots fired at Darrien, while he was being chased down and running for his life. We NEVER received the video surveillance footage from these cameras either. WHY?? If this video or any other video proves Darrien was a threat, and Schauerhamer, Judson and the Citizens of Saratoga Springs were in ANY danger – Why would they not want us or the public to see them?? (see pic of Panda Express cameras – taken during the investigation)

Please look for and share (on any social media) our posts in order to create more awareness and dispel any error in judgment regarding Darrien’s death as we work towards justice.

Just a little update, Susan Hunt (Darrien's mom) recently rejected a 900K wrongful death settlement offer from Saratoga police, which effectively would also serve as a gag order -- not allowing her to speak about the incident or the officers involved.

She has since also changed her attorney over to the late Johnnie Cochran's law firm. Yep, that same Cochrane. :) The surveillance footage from where the shooting took place - last seen in police custody - has since disappeared. ;)

Good for her. I personally would take less money if they admitted guilt.
