Another Best Buy Rant

Stupid cashier would not ring up my order until I give up my personal phone number. I told her she did not need it and to enter what ever she wanted. She then read me the riot act about company policy to get phone numbers for every transaction. When I spoke to the manager on duty he backed her up on this. F@ck that place. They will have to drag me in at gunpoint before I step foot in there again.

I never give them my number. If they were to persist, I'd just say I don't have a phone.

Something doesn't sound right about this story.

I have never been asked for my phone number and If I had been I would have politely declined to give it to them. They want my money and are not going to lose a sale over a phone number.

Yeh, this story stinks somehow.

Why do they want your phone number anyway? They should learn from Radio Shack that people don't want, nor should give up personal information like that if they simply want to make a purchase.

Blah to Best Buy

 to Circuit City

I did, I had about 200$ worth of DVD?s in hand and handed to the manager and said explain this lost revenue to your supervisor and I will be shopping at Fry's from now on for these kind of purchases. I also gave him my customer points card and told where to stick it. I did not make a big scene but I did draw attention at the front counter.

What stinks about it, I politely declined and I ended up wih a cashier who is a idiot and a manager is a idiot also.
Just because two employees at Best Buy can not think for themselves does not make my story bullshit.

hmm..i never thought of it..so WTF do they want our phone numbers for?
i also recall radioshack always asks for it. is it just for database purposes or something
more sinister?

I can't speak for other retailers, but the one I work for uses it for order tracking. We do not, and will never sell customer phone numbers.

If someone doesnt want to give me their phone number, they don't have to. I do let them know that their phone number is the only way I can track their purchse. If they don't give me their phone number, we can't provide any warranty service in the future.

Nope they wanted my phone number for some DVD's. I have been shopping at that store since they opened it in 94/95 somewhere around then. They have never ask for a phone number untill today. I understand this is retail but I expect the store manager to have some common sense.

Hmm. Well I normally I avoid them if I can help it, but if they are doing this maybe I will have to buy something there tomorrow so I can make a stink 🙂

I was just there today and they asked for mine too. This was the first time they've done that.

Recently started at my local Best Buy. Must be new software, but last two purchases the cashier asked for my phone number before she rang anything up.
