I was thinking of purchasing this game. I always wanted to play the first, but never bought it. I was looking at BG2 last nite at the store, and it seemed to kinda look similar to Diablo2 in the way that you move about and fight. I've recently beaten Diablo2, and don't really want to play another game similar to it right now. (NOTE: When I say similar, I mean the battle style, not anything else!!!)

So how does the battle system work, and is it similar to Diablo, and are any of the RPG elements similar to games on consoles such as Final Fantasy and the like???

Since BGII is based on Advanced Dungeons & Dragons it is more of a true RPG, where Diablo II is more of an action adventure game with RPG-like elements. In the BG games you control a party of up to 6 people instead of just one. Also, the BG games can be played in a semi turn based style. When you go into to battle you can pause the game, give commands to your characters, then unpause to let the battle go. You can also set the game to pause automatically on events like, seeing the enemy, a weapon breaking, etc. BGII is a lot more tactical than Diablo. There are plenty of battles in BGII that you will come to that seem impossible, but if you use different tactics they are beatable. BGII much more of an in depth game than Diablo with a really deep story line, tons of quests, side quests, a lot of spells (over 300), massive amounts of area to explore.

I just finished Diablo II myself, and I don't feel BGII and Diablo II are that similar in their play styles. Controling a party of 6 is a lot different then controling one guy. Also, being able to pause during battles to give commands is really cool.

Well, I don't think that they are even close in battle styles, but I was reading somewhere on their site that a demo for the game is on the CD of some current or soon to be current gaming magazine. I don't buy them, so I didn't pay attention to the details.
