State Farm penalized in suit over tornado claims

State Farm acted "recklessly" and "with malice" in handling insurance claims from dozens of families whose homes were damaged when a wave of tornadoes, including the strongest in recorded history, swept through Oklahoma in 1999, a jury has decided.

The verdict, announced late Thursday, delivered millions to the lead plaintiffs and could have repercussions in the Gulf Coast states, where residents allege State Farm acted in bad faith when using engineering firms to assess damages after Hurricane Katrina destroyed thousands of homes and businesses.

Hopefully this will help those in the south after all the BS some of these slimeball insurance companys are pulling. Problem is they probable still saved/made more money doing this BS then they will have to pay out.

And now everyone's rates will go through the roof to pay for the damages.

Yea they think this wil not affect what happend in NO and the surrounding areas. But they are so sure of themselves they had the SAME people that looked the homes in that area to look at them in NO as well.

So hopefully they get whats coming to them.

Yep and they will appeal it and in the end settle for a lot less. Then again insurance companies will see it STILL pays to f__k with people as they know in the end they are still making more money then if they did things on the up and up.

I had car insurance with State Farm for over fifteen years, had A++ rating, the best you can have. Then although my car was a year older and I didn't have any tickets, claims or accidents they raised my premium $250. Since I had been with them so long I stayed, but the next year they wanted $250 more again. A $500 raise when my rate should have been going down. I now use esurance and pay about 1/2 State Farm wanted.

This is our only true recourse. Taking our business elsewhere.

"Like a bad neighbor, State Farm is there (to fvck you up)."

I got kicked outta State Farm in my early driving career 'cause I drove my car into somebody's garage. I then switched to All State, who found out about my previous incident, and kicked me out as well. Then I signed up w/ 21st Century, who gave me good rates. But when I bought a new car, 21st Century wouldn't give me a deal, even though I've been a loyal customer w/ them. So I'm now w/ Progressive.
